If I have to add the crop factor for this to my DSLR, does that make a 28mm lens longer than my 35mm F2.4? Im asking as I was browsing for something slightly wider than my 35 and I was drawn to this thread...

A 28mm lens on an APS-C sensor will have about the FoV of a 43mm lens on full-frame/film. So if you're meaning your 35mm lens on a film camera, yes, but if you mean 35mm lens on the same DSLR, it will have the FoV of about 54mm (for a Pentax crop factor of 1.54).

So the 35 mm lens remains longer

Thank you, was unsure whether the crop factor applied with DA lenses

Yep- with any lens. I think a 28mm lens on APS-C gives a really nice FoV - I prefer it over my 35mm lens.

I used to like 28mm better but now I'm divided. If there's people in the picture I prefer 35 now, if it's a scene I prefer 28. Can't go wrong with either, though!

I was about to write the same thing! Its really a shame Pentax isn't producing a 28mm prime right now. Very good FoV for crop sensors and Pentax already has some nice designs for this focal length! AF, modern coatings, QS, WR and it would fly off the shelves!

This photo taken with the Pentax M 28mm f2.8

Totally agree; I'd be a big fan of that.

I like the photo too

I shot this photo as raw, but I didn't even PP it. Pentax M 28mm f2.8 - according to reviews, one of the worst 28mm Pentax lenses lol

Looks nice to me! I'm thinking of picking one up, to go with my M28/3.5.

Have you noticed that most of the "reviewers" usually have less than 10 posts on the PF? That should mean something.... not sure what. I always take what they have to say with a very large grain of salt!

The M28/2.8 is confusing because there are two versions with very different optics. But the first version is much more common, I think. I have a copy and have always liked the lens. It's on my list of best Pentax values, along with the M50/1.7.

Yep, I have the inferior version, but it works quite well for me!

When I had both (first M version, and A version which is the same as late M) I thought the rendering of the first version was better (more vivid colors - A was too subdued). I should have kept that lens, but sold both after I got my Rikenon XR (I tend not to have duplicates - unless it's a 50!)

At least in my samples, the early M was definitely not inferior...
