Lens character: S-M-C Takumar 28mm vs. FA 31mm

I just ran a little comparison test because I wanted to check the colour rendition of my old S-M-C Takumar 28mm f/3.5. The closest focal length I have with me is the FA 31mm Limited. We all know that old lenses tend to be low in contrast and have less saturated colours. Well, do they? Seeing the results I decided to turn this into a small comparison challenge. Which lens is A, which is B? Both shots were taken at f/9.5 at 1/180 and identically processed (except a minimal exposure adjustment for the Takumar shot: +0,05 in ACR). However, I cropped the 28mm shot fo the FOV of the 31mm lens. I admit that a different subject and a wider f-stop might bring out the difference more clearly.

Snapped this one tonight with the busted K-30. Way more post process than I normally like to do to hide the AUGH from the fouled sensor.

Mine is a 52mm version, no A setting. Nice lens - colors & contrast aren't quite up to SMC Pentax standards, but it has good sharpness & smooth focusing ring. Good luck with yours!

Nice results! You seem to be getting more vivid colors than my version produces. I usually have to pump up the vibrance & saturation a bit. Hope to see more shots from yours.

Pentax K 28mm f3.5 SHIFT

My first weekend with 30 year old shift lens. This is K lens so built from glass and metal only. Shift mechanism is simple and rather intuitive. I found this lens very good optically. It is very sharp at f3.5 in close distance and f8 at infinity. When shifted there are some lateral CA - but nothing terrible.

*istD + M28/3.5 (xposted from POTW)
Here's a quick sequence of shots from a couple mornings ago at a local pond.
Our dog Jeannie studying the local wildlife:

A few moments later the ducks moved away:

I noticed these guys in the background & tried to sneak up on them. With only the M28/3.5 I couldn't get too close for fear of spooking them (which I did!)

This is a shot of my dog, Nisa, taken with the Sigma 28mm F/1.8. I got this lens last December and it's been on my camera more than any other lens since then.
