I lost the lens cap twice already both times in my pocket.
Whenever I get a new lens, I get a stick-on lens cap leash. For the 40mm, it gives me a lot of piece of mind, and makes it easier to find if I drop it.

You guys sold me with those pictures. Looks like this lens has the clarity of my 20-40mm and the Bokeh of my Takumar 50mm f1.4 (sort of). The reason why I wrote it off was because of its size. I'm not a fan of pancake lenses on a DSLR, but for the price and for convenience, I might look into this lens whenever I have some spare change.

Yes, getting a replacement cap is a great idea! I used a cheap camcorder UV filter, so I wouldn't even necessarily have to unscrew it to take photos. But the filter's threads were not very good. A real cap is better.
Congrats on getting that DA 40mm XS! It is the most affordable way to get those Limited colours and contrasts!

I have love/hate relationship with my "body cap". On some days, when it's sharp and with no PF even wide open, I love it. On other days, when it's soft and drowning in PF even at infinity closed down, I want to sell it.

Lens cap solution

I don't like keeping track of the 27mm cover, I don't like putting any pressure on that little inner barrel and threads, a lens keeper is a drag on such a small lens (IMHO), and this solution gives a bit of WR (see image below).

This 65mm push-on cap is nice because the price is cheap, concave to allow for optics extension, and covers the entire outer barrel. To achieve a perfect snug fit, add soft side Velcro lining to the inner lip - even a second layer in 3-4 spots if you want it very snug (personal preference, I guess). Cap available here:

Take note that the image posted at the store website does not match the cap logo design I received...

I like ScooterMaxi Jim's solution too, but for $.99 shipped, here is the 27mm snap-on lens cap I use. Stays on well, and no worries in case I do lose it.

Thanks for the lens hood info, just ordered one for £0.99p delivered. Let's see how it does when it arrives next month.........depending on the wind direction I suppose.

Heck, yes, great solution - and at that price buy 3 of them and put the extras in a drawer; hardly any space taken up. However, none available on ebay at the moment. Popular option, I guess.

Mine arrived yesterday and does the job very well without the worry of damaging the lens when you have to push the original on......or having it fall off the minute you look away.

I have had this lens for a year and it has been mounted on my K5 90% for the time. I enjoy the pancake. Sometimes it is to wide and sometimes to long. Maybe I should try the 20-40 Limited. I leave the cap at home, never use them.

Here is a sample.

Another little DA 40XS tip: I carry mine around in a neoprene filter case. (Available on $bay or from Op/Tech) Fittingly small case for a beautifully small lens! I can either clip it on or put in my pocket or bag.
