admittedly, a DSLR system is designed to allow the photographer to choose the lens for the situation.

sometimes you may not have the time or the proper lens so it is very nice to find a lens which allows you to utilize the "shoot and pray" ( if you don't try, you know you won't have a photo ) method. I choose a lens and go out to deliberately discover the possibility of recovering a usable photo from a less than ideal attempt. Here is one of my experiences with this lens

Took this on my black brick a while back.

I was sitting at a park bench when this critter arrived. It went straight for the honey that was spilled on the table.

I didn't have time to change to my macro lens, but I think it turned out ok with the pancake.

Has anyone noticed the 3D pop that this lens produces? It must be something to with the reason why the bokeh is strange. That and also the fact that it's an 'APS-C 28mm' lens when used on FF, really nice FoV for that natural look.

Great! Perfect focus, sharp detail, nice OoF transition, good green-yellow contrast..!

I think this has to do with the fact this pancake is derived from Tessar design. Tessars are known for relatively slow aperture, but they have a different type of bokeh than Planar-designs, and they render images in a.. very natural, lifelike way. It has to do with contrasts, even sharpness throughout the image and OoF rendering. Tessar is more compact and usually has fewer elements
