Did some boring work photos today with the Carl Zeiss Planar T* 1.4/85 on the K-1. It's about grass growing.
Looks like some sort of bio-mechanical slope stabilisation. Interesting

Rebuilding a river through contaminated land. That's coconut mat based permanent turf reinforcement and 1-2 tonne rock armour. Underneath is composted green waste (manufactured top soil) and below that an imported clay compacted to permeability <10-9m/s. The grasses are a river bank seed mix sown before the turf mat is placed.

Do you have an image of what they are doing in the river bed, and riparian margins - or is that what your current photo shows. I have a professional interest in what you have photographed - hence the questions. This is what I do. I am happy for you to PM me with details if that works better.

Thanks

Ross

I really don't regret grabbing this and the 2/35 ZK whilst they were still available. It's cost an arm and a leg but seriously worth it. I'm surprised quite how easy manual focus is with the 1.4/85, the 2/35 STILL being stuck in customs!

Does anyone know whether it's possible to convert a Zeiss ZE or ZF to K-mount? I'm specifically thinking of the Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 135mm f/2 Apo.

You're not on your own about wanting the 2/135. It's a shame they released that lens after finishing the ZK run.

From evrything I've read, the only way you can convert from ZE/ZF2 is by using an adaptor with a corrective lens, which would of course defeat the purpose of a lens like that. However, there are industrial versions of the T* lenses that you will find on the Zeiss website, they come in an M42 screw mount which might be a viable option with the M42 to K adaptor.

I spoke with a local Zeiss rep here about 3 years ago regarding this approach but he seemed to be completely dismissive of the idea going on about adaptor tolerances and needing to send the camera to Germany to ensure it was correctly set up. I took this as maybe there is scope to be able to fit the non-ZK zeiss options after all. I didn't pursue it further at the time and wished I had the opportunity to do so now I have a K-1.

Whilst he may not have been interested in helping too much several comments have been made around PF regarding contacting Zeiss directly and it seems they do reply to emails, are professional etc. It can't hurt to drop them an emial to see what they say. Of course if you do so we'd all be interested. I'm sure I could save money by eating once a week or something like that.

I've emailed Leitax for advice about ZF to K mount conversion and I'll report back. I think I read somewhere that Nikon lenses can be adapted to Pentax K. Thus, if I've read/recalled this correctly, it must be possible to get ZF glass and adapt/convert it to K.

A 135/2 APO ZF.2 can be had for £949 new, which, although a shed load of money, ain't too bad if you've just become totally addicted to Zeiss glass as I just have.

Great news!

Email I sent to Leitax . . .

Hello,

I recently got a Pentax K-1 and managed to pick up a Zeiss Planar 85/1.4 ZK and a Distagon 35/2 ZK. Since Carl Zeiss no longer make ZK's I wondered whether it's possible to convert ZE or ZF's to K-mount? I'm specifically thinking of the Zeiss 135mm f/2 Apo Sonnar T*.

Many thanks.

Kind regards,
. . . and the response!

Hello Mike,

I'm working on this conversion currently. The conversion will take a bit of machining on the Zeiss lens, but it will be able to be used later on a Nikon camera with no problem.
I will post it in my site as soon as possible.

Best regards, David
So ZK may soon be back!
