In mid 2014 I relocated to Newcastle for work. This journey is now over and back to Brisbane I go. Whilst it's only about 10-11 hours driving, there's so much between here and there that my first overnight stop is only about 1.5 hours from here. But it's right by the beach and as I will have plenty of time to travel back I'll be up early and staying out late each day. And each day will have plenty of stops. I've got about a week to travel a bit under 1000km, so it will be a meandering trip.
So the last couple of days have been about packing and stuff, and well this afternoon I was keeping an eye on the sky to see what was going on and right on cue the late Autumn weather didn't disappoint. So out I went with the K-1 and the Zeiss 2/100 alas I stuffed up by not grabbing a wider lens as it was one of those skies. And in my enthusiasm I decided to lean out a bit over the balcony, as mentioned previously, at which point I incurred the replacement cost of a Zeiss 2/100 lens hood. This is annoying as I'd only replaced it about a year or so ago when I dinged the other one. Look up the price, anyone using these lenses take heed: Don't damage the lens hoods.
Image 1: Now, if I was creating something special then the loss of the hood would be a sacrifice I could accept. Alas this is not that special.
Image 2: Anyhoo, it did fall a fair way, I lived in the right side of this building on the top floor, the balcony on the sixth floor here belongs to my neighbour. So, I had decent views, but there were better. Unless we're talking the storms that would roll in in late Spring/early Summer. Then I had the best view going, especially with my lightning trigger.
Images 3,4 & 5: Well, I'm not leaving this town on a downer. I grabbed the 21/2.8 and chased the sunset. I probably should have gone with the 25 or 35, but the 21 meant I got a lot of sky. And so, with that I say farewell to Newcastle....and my f*#^ing lens hood.
