Today, Lloyd Chambers posted an interesting article on the Zeiss website entitled - "Micro Contrast and the ZEISS ‘Pop'".

Certainly most of us here who subscribe to this thread are already very familiar with "Zeiss Pop". One thing I found interesting in this article is that with some Zeiss lenses, the optimum micro-contrast is found at f/2.8; and that for most lenses the micro-contrast starts to degrade at f/6.3 to f/8.

Lloyd also said that the Zeiss "Otus" lenses have the best micro-contrast/Pop of all the lenses that he's tested.
I've never shot Zeiss "Otus" lenses on my K1, but I have shot many Zeiss Milvus and Zeiss Classic lenses. To my eye, the Zeiss "Milvus" lenses clearly have better micro-contrast then their Zeiss "Classic" counterparts. I guess that one really does get what they pay for.

While all of us would like to shoot the very best lenses, practically, I have to realize that I will never be able to afford the best Zeiss lenses (Otus), so I am happy shooting my Milvus and Classic lenses.

Otus lenses can of course be adapted to Pentax K mount and shot on a Pentax K1 camera. I know of no one who has yet done so.

I'm both sad that you're moving on and struggling trying to contain my LBA. Have you posted anything in the market places yet?

Hi, not posted to the market place yet. I still need to make a new donation before I can use it. So a small shout out here for now, I expect to pay the fee and post there at some point in time. I'm a little sad to move on too, however there's just too many things I can't do with pentax in the professional market, which I'm steadily growing into. Seasons come, seasons go, great memories can last forever.

Another from my trip in the Smoky Mountains. Twisty mountain roads in a tiny convertible is every bit as much fun as it sounds.

I like the depth of field here mate, just wished you guys with the 2/135 would stop making me want one too. Still, maybe one day, though I'd have to say the new Milvus 18/2.8 is first cab off the rank if I can pick up another Zeiss.

This image goes back 3 years captured with the K5 and the Distagon 2/35.

Nicely done Tas. My appreciation for the Zeiss 35 has steadily grown over the last couple of months.

Cheers Les, Rob (lightsource) has just put his 2/35 up for sale, it's a versatile lens and whilst maybe not as cutting edge as the 1.4/35 it's a joy to use and not too big and heavy for a Zeiss lens.

Here's another image with the Distagon 2.8/21, another nice optic from Zeiss.

The 35/2 and the 28/2 Zeiss lenses are similarly compact. For what I shoot f2 or f2.8 is fine, and I'd rather have a smaller lens than carry around weight for f stops I never use.

Great shot, the Zeiss 21 never disappoints.

This image was captured using the K-1 and Makro Planar 2/50, one of which just sold this week. I hope someone around here was fortunate enough to pick it up from lightsource. This was captured at f2 to take advantage of the shallow DoF and vignetting at this aperture. The best way to view this image is in lower light and clicking on the image to go to Flickr and use there large view using the arrows in the bottom right corner of the black section then pressing f11 for fullscreen.

Hi all.
I've stumbled across a pretty decent priced Zeiss Planar, but it has a certain thing at border of lens and it looks like this:

Anyone knows what it is? Seller claims it has no effect on a photo though.

Thanx in advance for help.
