Originally posted by kharry2012 So which would have the wider fov- the fa 43 (a film lens) or the DA 50 (a digital crop sensor lens) on my k-01? I would think the 50. I would think the 50 would be 50 and the 43 would be 64.5. Am I wrong?
I think everyone is confused by this at one time or another, partly because there is a lot of misinformation published online about it. Unless you have a long history of film SLR shooting and still use film sometimes I suggest you follow the advice given by savoche.
To answer your question I just took off my shoes to use as a position marker and mounted a DA 40 on a K30 and then I mounted it on a K1000. I focused both cameras into the corner of the room so as to align the left and right edges of the view finder on a window casing and the edge of the picture frame. Though the view finder I could see more image to the left and right through the view finder of the K1000. That probably would not transfer to film because the image would get cropped off (vignetted).
Conversely, I mount a 50mm A lens to the same 2 cameras, stood in the same spot. When focused on the corner I could just barely see those edges, the casing and frame with the K1000 + 50mm and the same lens on the k30 from the same spot showed a much more narrow view. Each of those image could have been captured with either camera as nothing would be cut off (vignetted).
