If you can live with manual focus, consider the Samyang 85/1.4 (also sold under various brands such as Rokinon, Bowers, Polar, Vivitar, Opteka, Falcon, ...).

Optically, I think the Samyang 85/1.4 does not need to hide behind an A* 85/1.4 or an FA 85/1.4 (for portrait purposes, i.e., near wide open). The linked thread does not contain many impressive test shots, a better selection can be found on photography-on-the.net.

I have the Rokinon version of the 85 and while I do think it is great bang for the buck I do not find it's rendering as pleasing as either the FA77 or the FA85. The pixie dust is strong in those two lenses.
