The 20-40 looks better than the prime although this is no surprise.

I used a cpl on both shots, the cpl is a better one that was used for the F28, I think it produced nicer colours (though all that was lost through my edit choice of the two comparison shots, the standalone 24-26mm shot of the 20-40 shows what colours were actually happening on the day). All shots at f8 and all pixelshifted. It's not something you can see easily but on pixel peeping it looks like the 20-40 is sharper on the edges than the f28, but that is likely because it's a crop, I'm comparing a 36mp edge shot with a 24mp crop, so no surprises there. If I were to use the 20-40 on FF at 28mm and leave as is there would be dark corners in the sky that are difficult to correct in post. I may have a go at it another day, see if some cloning or extending tools in PS can help with that. It's funny that dark bottom corners are far more forgiving than dark corners in the sky.

My next test between the F28 and 20-40 will be centre sharpness at wide apertures, and bokeh quality comparisons.

The 20-40 is coming with me on Tuesday on a wild camping trip on a beach in North Donegal near the very tip of Ireland. It is a dark sky area but the forecast is mostly cloudy and with a full moon but I'll see what I can do and hopefully post a few here.

I use a Hoya Fusion cpl on the 20-40, it is magnificent having zero colour cast or reflections/ghosting etc. It has such good transmission it is difficult to see the polarisation when turning it and I need to find water to check, a puddle or something. There is an arrow on the ring but I haven't learnt it yet, ie, when it is polarised. I also have a 49mm Marumi Exus cpl which is excellent too but with a slight cast. The Hoya Fusion really is transparent and the best there is IMHO.

We might have the same Hoya Fusion, mine is like that also, needing to find a puddle or reflection to see it working. I just meant in terms of saturation and power it seems subtler and weaker than what was sitting on the F28 that day. With that filter (also Hoya but different style) it's quite substantial (it's really noticeable in terms of additional contrast and saturation when it is dialled correctly).

The KP is usually shown in promotional stuff with the 20-40mm on it and I think that's done a lot to sell the lens as well as the camera. It must be a nice little combo.

It really is a great combination. I do wish the DA21mm was weather sealed for prime travel, but the KP and 20-40 is hard to beat.

Speaking of, from the Denali park road back in June, headed back from Kantishna Alaska. 14 frame panorama stitched in lightroom.
