some quick pics from the Pentax 20-40 Limited lens. seems to have good IQ to me, and I enjoy the bokeh, as well as the light weight and small size. it has replaced 21mm limited and 70mm limited lenses.

hakea, the primes are really nice. I sold mine to fund the zoom. I haven't looked back. In my opinion, I didn't lose anything with regards to image quality and gained a lot. But everyone has their own list of what they are willing to give up. You will have a nice kit either way.

I'm new user of DA20-40. Never used zoom lenses before for a long time. I needed to check AF and made correction with K-5IIs. I was surprised a bit.
All my primes don't need any correction. But the correction is small.

I've made many testing photos last days and found that ALL apertures (from f2.8-3.5-4 till f8) at ALL focal ranges are absolutely working for street photo and photos at close and middle distance.
The sharpness after AF correction is phenomenal. It's the level of FA Limited lenses. And I think my DA20-40 is better than DA21, DA40 and DA35.
Even 20@2.8 is rather good at the center and not bad at the corners.
The bokeh is very good. It's zoom with IQ of prime.

As for infinity - I've found that it's better to use apertures from f4 till f5.6.

Maybe, it's specific character of my copy of this zoom. I don't understand.

Explain me, please, is it normal that the best apertures at close distance and at the infinity are different?

P.S. I've put my DA40 at K200D. It looks a bit sharper at K200D. DA20-40 wins at K-5IIs.

Hi Ogl. Welcome to the club. For my specific k-5 I've had to AF adjust all of my lenses and mostly to bring the focus forward. So that went for all of my DA primes (15, 21, 35, 40, 70, 300) and my DA50-135. All are (were for those primes I sold) around +5 to +8. In terms of focusing behavior, I don't notice what you describe at focusing at infinity, but to be honest I haven't specifically tested that behavior. I might have to test what you are describing.

Any behavior with regards to missed focus (unsharpness) are more related to lack of contrast in the subject that I'm photographing when I've noticed it. So what I do for critical focus is zoom in to 40, focus and then bring it back to a wide focal length and press the shutter release. I shoot mostly landscapes so that extra step really doesn't bother me. It's what I also do with the 50-135. So i don't think it is a specific behavior of the DA20-40.

Hi Ogl. Welcome to the club. For my specific k-5 I've had to AF adjust all of my lenses and mostly to bring the focus forward.

I've been lucky, none of my current Pentax lenses have needed focus adjustment on my K-3 or K-5, including this 20-40mm Limited. In fact, my experience with this lens so far has been spot-on AF every time, without fail. It's a bit slow at times, and frequently hesitant, but it always gets it perfect.

Here is 2 photos from yesterday morning, it was -30C (-36C with windchill factor), first shot at 30mm and second one at 20mm both at around f/11-13 with K-01 on a tripod.

Please excuse a proud first time Grandpa!! I picked up this lens awhile ago having preordered it from Henry's on a tip from leopold on the "other forum." I'm normally a landscape kind of shooter, but we had a new addition to the family at Christmas and it sure changes your photographic interests. So, I haven't really had the time to get out and shoot landscapes with the new 20-40 yet, with balancing work and new baby visits! So here is a shot from the lens anyway. I normally shoot primes and picked this up since most of my prime shots are in this focal length range. We'll see how it works out for kid shots!! Taken with the K3 and DA 20-40 at 40 f4.
