@zantaphia, those B/W shots are superb! A wonderful comment on modern urban China.

BTW, as someone who owns both the DA 20-40 and the FA 31,
can you give your opinion on the comparison between the two lenses?
The issue came up in another thread.

Thanks! I've used the in-camera Bold monochrome setting to get the hard contrast B/W.

About the comparison, it's maybe to early for me to judge. But so far I think they have the same build, and quality feeling, however the DA 20-40 WR is much lighter (less weight), FA31 is sharper, and faster. It's like apples and pears. The have different taste, but both are good! About the FA31 I was not so impressed on my K-5, but now on the K-3, it's really shines like a star. But I have only used it for studio shots on the K-3, not as a walk-around lens, as I've done with the DA20-40WR.

Those are some awesome photos, Dice! Going on a trip to the UK and potentially to europe in september and I'm thinking this and a short tele prime would be an excellent travel kit. Your shots just keep cementing this thought

Thanks dngr. Sounds like a great trip. I've only been to Europe once. And your kit plan sounds right on target. I struggle with a UWA but depending on where you are going, that might be another possibility. If you get the lens you've got to start adding your images to the club. I feel like I'm hogging all the space here.

HD DA 20-40 Limited

I am glad I can join the club! Here are some images from my recent Tokyo trip where I bought the lens.

Fortunately I had the courage to buy this lens despite the negative reviews. In my opinion this lens is good.

Keep posting those great images. I'm sure others are in a similar boat wondering whether the lens can deliver based on what has been written. As you and I know, it can.

I was playing around today shooting a couple of landscapes with aperture wide open. This one I intended to not be a hyperfocal distance to see how the bokeh looked. I kind of like it. Looks kind of painterly.

This second I was probably pretty close to hfd.

This one while not wide open is not at hfd either. Just curious about how it renders.

Dice, just hopped into this thread and really enjoyed your posts of "H2O" and "Electric Green". That moss or alga or whatever in the third pic of H2O is really fascinating! You captured its delicacy wonderfully. And the Electric Green image is complex and engaging. Thanks for sharing!
