Congratulations on your purchase.

Please let us see your work with the lens here
when you're ready to post it.

Due to the HD coating, or whatever,
I haven't had any problem with stray light or flare,
so it seems that the standard hood is perfectly adequate.

Hoods on zooms are problematic anyway,
since they usually only shield the wide angle
(with a few exceptions: Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 USM L - Full Format Review / Test Report).
I have the same experience as Lytrytyr
No hood required or an alternative hood like this one

Thanks Crooski. I'll just have to be patient and then give it a good work out upon arrival.

Thanks filoxophy! Yes, this is a peaceful and remote area, far away from the urban civilisation. I need some contrast to Beijing sometimes...

We had one of those in Seattle about two years ago, also a Z Band Radar on a Russian built platform. The coast Guard had a thousand yard exclusion zone around the rig.
Nice image.

Toured the control ship for that rig while it was in drydock here in Vancouver, couldn't take any photos of the inside though

Ahhh, that's exactly what I'm aiming for!

It's surely the most perfect high quality travel setup money can buy...

I'm about to pull the trigger for this lens, but would like to see how it performs in low light events. Appreciate if anyone can share some photos.

Sorry, can't help you there.

Although the DA 20-40 has replaced my Tamron 17-50/2.8 A16 for travel and walkaround,
I'm still using the Tamron as my event lens,
where speed and range trump rendering, flare resistance and compactness.
