Great clarity. This lens is underrated. Great to travel with it.

Pairing the HD DA 20-40 with the KP makes for an amazing kit.

Surely people are using this lens more than once a month?

When God created the world he had the 20-40 Limited in mind, here it is at 20mm and cropped 1:1.

The Hoya Fusion CPL lives on mine, never comes off, a great polariser that has no ill effects on the HD lens, the coatings are brilliant and light transmission so high it doesn't darken when turned, so much better than the old polarisers!

I'm seriously considering this lens, but I need your help. I have a KP and K-1 and am interested in comparing how well the 20-40 performs on each camera. If anyone has a HD DA 20-40, KP and a K-1 and is happy to shoot the 20-40 on the K-1 at 3 lengths (24mm, 30mm and 34mm) and each shot taken wide open and also f8, and then also do the same with the KP at close to/equivalent FoV ranges and apertures and drop those RAWs somewhere, I would be forever in their debt

The 20-40 on the KP gives an approximation of 30-60mm on FF, I'm missing something around 24mm with AF for the K-1 hence that is an attractive prospect. I'm not sure I can justify the price tag of the HD DA 20-40 for the KP only, but if it really does well at 24mm on the K-1 then this might be the deal sealer. So really... the most important shots are RAW files at 24mm on the K-1 at varying apertures.

TIA!

Bruce

Can only offer some help... Apparently there is no hard vignetting using 23-37mm on the K1, I don't have the K1 but tried the 20-40 on a film camera and it is true. There is stronger vignetting on FF than APS-C obviously. There are posts on this site and test results already done so look yourself.

If you do a lot of 1:1 photos like me then you have no problems. 1:1 on a K1 will still give you an awesome 24MP.

But maybe the DFA 24-70 would serve you better?

Thanks for that. Yeah it would but the pricetag (and also size)

I really think I will join this club and just pull the trigger on this today.

Curious if there is lens profile correction for this lens when sitting on the K-1? Is the vignetting removal handled fairly well etc?

I would think so, all the lens corrections work perfectly on my K-70 and Lightroom software.

It is a really light lens, not too big, like I said before it only takes a 55mm filter and I have a Hoya Fusion CPL on mine. The takumar styling is gorgeous but inside is modern lens technology, it doesn't flare and exactly matches a HD DA15 f4 for rendering, contrast and colour. If you didn't know you'd think the images came out of the same lens. Far easier to get sharp corners on the 20-40 compared to the DA15 though.

I hope I didn't sway you to spend money.
