Thank you - this little gem has been probably my acquisition of the year. I have acquired others that for me a "better" (a few K series Macros 50/100); however, I was never attempting to acquire this Rikenon - it came bundled and was an impulse "since no one is bidding..." buy.

Rikenon XR 35/2.8
I am pretty sure that your lens is the same as the Pentax-M 35mm f/2.8 lens. Ricoh bought some Pentax lenses and I guess they always had a special relationship with Asahi/Pentax - I've seen the Rikenon 28mm f/3.5 and I am sure it even has the exact same SMC coatings as the Pentax version. The same is probably true of your 35 2.8, and the 200mm f/4 as well, as those were the three that I remember that have all-Pentax glass in a Rikenon barrel.

And that last pic tells how much of a gem your lens is! Wonderful.

I do own a copy of the M 35/2.8 with metal hood (from the SMC Tak 35/3.5) - I have to say that the Rikenon out performs it (and I do not have a hood for the Rikenon). Whether it is the same optics?

The 35/2.8 XR apparently had to versions - Early version w f16 as min aperture, 6 blades and MFD of 35cm. Late version = just like the M 35/2.8 - f22 as minimum aperture, 5 blades, 30cm MFD.

My copy of the XR corresponds with the early version. All of this is just info I've gathered from different sources including postings from users here at PF.

Interesting, would you mind posting a picture or two of the lens?

I think you can tell from the coatings that they are SMC... beautiful flower too, by the way!

Now that's not nearly as bad as the reviews make it seem! Quite good in fact. But the bokeh in that first shot, oh my, that messes with one's head a little bit

Thanks! Re coatings - coatings are good - I have not used a hood for this lens at all in any shot, and it behaves wonderfully. A hood wil likely make it shine further!

On the XR 135/2.8 = it is not a bad lens at all. I've seen and handled worse 135mms. It is no Takumar, but it could stand in against the M 135/3.5 as it is quite sharp wide open. Bokeh wise, I'm with you... bit too busy and non-pleasing. But stopped down has nice contrast, is sharp and can render nice colors.

That is a very good lens, I remember using mine at f5.6 and thinking it can't get much sharper than this.

I keep looking at Rikenon 50s on eBay every now and then, might get me another 50/2 or 50/1.7 at some point...

Yes i tested it twice and it is sharper than Pentax 50/1.7 at f 5.6 (at least compared to two copies of Pentax lens I have). Some more photos with 50/2 from Brussels, Belgium.
