Z and CZJ 180

Here are a couple of garden shots with the Pentax 645Z and the Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar 180mm f 2.8. I do not use it as much as I should because of the size and weight, but when I do use it, I am never sorry.

CZJ Biometar 120mm f 2.8

I have seen reviewer comments stating that the CZJ 120mm is equal in quality to its little brother the 80/2.8, and in my experience that is true. Also, I have less flare problems with the 120mm than with the 80mm. The 120mm is also said to be good for portraiture, but my usual subjects are flowers, so here are a few.

KIT: Pentax K-1 with Carl Zeiss Jena 120mm f 2.8 Biometar (in Pentacon 6 mount and used with P6-PK adapter)

God must've been thinking of photographers when He created flowers.

Yes Andrew, and we even select lots of the flowers in our garden beds with an eye to how they will look to the camera!

Nice, and I notice that our calendula are still living after a killing frost, while dahlias, marigolds, and other are long gone.

Thanks, Ivan. We've already had our first snowfall up here in Ontario and the calendula are still kicking. They're the only colour left in our gardens. As far as flowers go, they're pretty hard to beat; they flower all summer/fall and are prolific re-seeders.

Your situation sounds like ours except that we still have some chrysanthemums and clematis blossoming through the cold, dahlias all dead and marigolds too. We get plenty of reseeds from calendula, marigolds, and malva (like small hollyhocks).

I have loved the effects of the Bokie given by the CZJ 75mm in Pinholecams photos. I have looked on Ebay no luck I would say a copy of this lens would cost a pretty penny if an when I find a copy. Thank you this thread has been an eye opener.

Time to go through my Father in laws old lenses that went with his ES II and My dads Spotmatic lenses.

Here's an odder one: an E.Ludwig Victar 50mm f2.9.

When it comes to Ernst Ludwig, it's mostly the Tessar-type Meritar that you find in m42 mount. The Victar is what that lens replaced, being a triplet that was one of the standard lenses on K.W.'s Praktiflex SLR.

As the 40mm screw mount Praktiflex got replaced with the 42mm Contax & Praktica lines, Ludwig modified some of their 40mm lenses to fit those cameras via a non-removable m40 to m42 adapter. While m40 versions of the lens are hard to date — the Praktiflex was produced from 1939 to 1949, and I've never seen any serial number tables for Ludwig — the m42 versions are likely from the late '40s, which makes them suitable for this thread.

(It's possible that they continued production of this particular lens into the early '50s, but that seems less likely to me than simply repurposing otherwise obsolete stock.)

In my experience the m42 version of the lens is rarer than the m40, but not any more expensive.

This copy is rather fungus infested unfortunately, so it mostly just sits on a shelf as a decoration except when I dig it out for some soft-focus macro work.
