The Flektagon arrived. Boy is that a big chunk of glass and the aperture is tiny but super super smooth.

I'll get some pictures up in a day or two.
Here are a couple from Sunday in Manchester.

Just bought a Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon 4/25 with what looks like an M42 thread mount.

I cannot really find a huge amount of information on it compared to the Helios for example; is it not a popular lens?

I appreciate F/4 isn't particularly quick but there is just something in the images that appealed to me. These are from the auction site (courtesy saleroom.com):

Does this lens get much love?
Impressive lens. The soviet MIR-1 is said to be inspired by the 35mm version of it.
What's very intriguing to me is that with enough light to stop it to f/22 you can go hyperfocal from 36cm to infinity... wow!
Now that you have it, can you please do a test on how well does this theory work?

I'm afraid I took the decision to move it on as there is a digital lens for my Olympus that I have decided I need sooner rather than later. I was duplicating the 24mm FL and the Sigma has won out.

I need to thin out my collection which has grown rapidly but it's hard to let some go. On the subject of the Mir-1 I just got one of those too

I found a Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar 50/2.8 in a flea market a while ago... I've named it 'the Ruined Tessar'

I wish I knew what happened to that front element....

you'd think that it would be impossible to shoot through that disaster, right?

X-T2 with Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar 50mm f2.8

while I did shoot some color shots through it, I've found that it is perfect for black & white:

It looks like someone cleaned the lens with steel wool.
I'm shooting with two Zeiss Tessars at the moment. a recently acquired West German version removed from an old Zeiss Ikon Contessa LK, manufactured between 1963 and 1965, and fitted with a 3D printed m42 mount, and a Jena version from about 1957 with twelve aperture blades. If interested, photos are on my Flickr page, William Bolton | Flickr If I could have only one lens, I would be content with the Tessar made in Stuttgart.

I know it's an old message but that Tessar is one of the few ones that has the red "flying kite" symbol. It's called "King Tessar" in Japan's circles. Technically it has no difference with any of the "red T" Tessars but what does have is an interesting story.

Carl Zeiss Jena Biotar 2/58 - unusual red marking ?
