Pentacon 50mm f1.8 lens

I thought I had enough lenses and that I was safe, being on the outs with PayPal and living now in Peru, but wouldn't you know it there's a dealer in used cameras and lenses here in Arequipa, and he had a 1958 copy of a Pentacon 50mm f1.8 Electric lens. The aperture mechanism needs to be cleaned and relubed, but the glass is very clean and it focuses smoothly. He wanted $50 for it. I offered $15, and he readily accepted. I've only had it for two days, but I'm already very impressed with it. It's extremely sharp wide-open, has great contrast, renders colors well, and has very pleasing bokeh (wide-open at any rate). Until I can find the right lubricant (Any suggestions?), I'll be shooting with it wide-open. It's my flower lens now.
A couple of shots taken at f1.8 and MFD, hand-held. No post processing, but a crop on the flower image.

Very fascinating bokeh in the second shot! Great color in the first shot.

A question about a CZJ P 50mm F1.8 lens, this club will know the answer.
I picked up a Praktica with this lens on it (I do know it's a bayonet mount) as it looked in very good condition.
Is this just a re-badged Pentacon? or just something cheap and cheerful that they stuck on it. I do have a Praktica with a 50mm F2.4 lens on it that I am not impressed with but am awaiting another battery to operate the meter before I run a film through this latest one.

As far as I know (but I also relate only on German photo sites), the Carl Zeiss Jena MC 1.8/50 is identical with the Prakticar 1.8/50, and is a Pankolar design.

The Pentacon 1.8/50 is a Meyer-Görlitz design (Meyer-Görlitz Oreston 1.8/50).

EDIT: On German eBay there are quite frequently offers of the CZJ 1.8/50 with PB (Praktika B) mount.

---------- Post added 03-10-18 at 17:36 ----------

With some PB mount lenses a conversion to K mount is possible - despite the fact the register distance with PB is slightly smaller than with K.

Thank you for the information, I have had a read of some pancolar reviews and it is quite highly regarded by some.
It would be nice to consider butchering it to use on my Pentax digital but before I contemplate doing that (and my skills indicate it would be butchering) I shall enjoy it on my Praktica.

Here's a couple taken with a Meyer-Optik Primoplan 58mm f1.9. I'm guessing the lens is around 1958/59 as it came with a Praktica IV camera (first version).

Here's some dying roses, shot wide open.

Here's my first attempt at a portrait with this lens at around f2.8 from memory. It's showing a fair amount of flare - from which I've concluded that this lens really needs a lens hood.

And here's what it looks like on the K-1 (shot with the Pentax Q7 and 01 standard lens)

My "new" ausJena Flektogon 35/2.8 (Carl Zeiss) at the Auto/Moto museum of Chatellerault. Taken while Charlotte was at yet another all day swim meet ... I shot some film with my S1a plus Auto-Tak 55/2 that morning, but that's for another thread ... (xpost from K-1 thread)

Forgot to post this one here ... xpost from K-1 thread.

Finally got out on a cloudy day to test a recent acquisition ... an ausJena Flektogon 35/2.8. Only had a moment at lunch time to shoot at the train station parking garage. Really like what I see and this one was well worth the 10€ price from the rummage sale ... lucked out. All shot wide open just to see and definitely more later in better weather conditions.

Interesting. I have been thinking of ordering a copy of the medium format CZJ Flectagon 50mm f 4.0. Using medium format Biometar 80 and 120 now, and liking both very well. BTW, you are now in Peru? I am still thinking about you as being in Chang Mai. Reminds me of when I used to hop around from Asia to Africa to Venezuela as an international trade consultant. How you decide which country to travel to next?
