The 1.4 pairs nicely with many of our long lenses. The question I always have is what would the photo have been without the TC. I tried testing this with the DA*300 a couple of years ago but grew impatient with the fiddling. I am not happy lens switcher. My bad. Maybe someone with more patience has worked on it.

I guess yes, it will work, I use it with my FA* (old) lense at f5.6, and works, but as you said, you are losing a stop of light...

I've tried the 1.4x converter with (a) the K-1 and D-FA 150-450, and (b) the K3 and DA 55-300 PLM. Results were soft at best.
Then I tried the 1.4x on the K3 with the DA* 300 (which replaced the 150-450) and got the attached result. This is a 100% crop--I'd say the IQ is quite good. My only reservation regarding this combo has to do with slow autofocus. Maybe I'll try smaller apertures and manual focus.

Got this last night taking some pictures of the moon. Still very new to this and am enjoying practicing. Saw the plane lights from far away and couldn't believe my luck.

Using the Pentax-DA 1.4x AW AF TC with a A lens

Hi all,
I was wondering about the camera body recognition of the presence of the DA rear converter using a A or A* lens. With my K7 body, after entering the resulting focal length of the A lens+TC, the body still displays/records the max A lens aperture. This is not related to a specific lens as this behavior occurs on both my 85 f/1.4 and 300 f/2.8 A* lenses. Now the issue is not displaying/recording a wrong aperture but whether the exposure meter is tricked or not. If the camera doesn’t know that a TC is present, it should underexpose.
Has anybody experience to share about that?
Thanks

Nice shots! You managed to get a lot of detail with the TC/lens combinations. Was the magpie shot with a tripod or handheld? Thanks for sharing.
Best.
