There's an interesting dimensionality to this photo... it doesn't have the "3D pop" that people like to talk about, but it had a subtle 3D feel to it. Maybe it has something to do with the soft lighting and the hard geometry of the house, and the way you composed the photo with the house so tight up against the edges of the frame.

The F 35-70 is very light and focuses pretty quickly in Live View, which helps when shooting one handed, with the arm fully extended...

I think you hit it on the head. I did like the angles and close framing, but it was the flat & soft evening light that I recall being a big factor.
Wonderful work with those moths/butterflies!

I use my camera as my notebook while conducting plant surveys. Since I got my K10D about a month ago this lens has hardly left it. It's just so infuriatingly... adequate. The rendering is excellent, and it focuses just-about-close-enough in macro mode, and when I can shoot a subject outside of the very unhelpful non-macro minimum focusing distance I love the framing and look at 35mm wide open. Basically, this lens has convinced me that what I really want is a 35mm macro limited. But in the meantime, this thing just soldiers on. The plastic focusing ring on the front disappeared while crashing around in heavy brush recently. I unsuccessfully listed it for sale twice in the past. I'm pretty sure I'm just going to have to keep using it until it breaks to finally justify a purchase of the 35 limited.

35mm wide open at minimum focusing distance, the rest are at 70mm in the "macro" range.

Lovely photos, and yes, "adequate" - in the best sense of the word - is a good descriptor of the 35-70.

Good luck, I smashed the barrel sideways on the floor and merely bending it back has kept it trucking for years after the incident.

$1.00 for 3 minutes of air dates this to rather recent, though. I think it cost... well, free back then.
