The "Projector Lens" Club ...

Hi and Bonjour,

I would like to start a club for "projector lenses" in order to share experiences, experiments and other info, etc.

I have had this idea for a while, but just threw together today a "first project". It's a Zeiss Ikon Talon 85mm f/2.8 projector lens that I stuffed into an old Russian M42 bellows. First tests were on the K110D before moving up eventually to the K-5. All shots were made this afternoon quite hastily, but the results are interesting for a permanently "wide open" lens. Registration distances can be found quickly via the bellows movements and "macro-type" enlargement is possible as well ... need to experiment more here and test further, etc.

So, here's what the "first rig" looks like and the following test shots are 6 MP K110D that are SOOC, except for some minor Lr4 adjustments.

Salut, John le Green Frog

Another projector lens project completed (x-post) ... a S.F.O.M. 140/3.2 (6x6 format lens) with a M42 mount glued to the rear ... first test shot on the K-5 ... SOOC, except for minor LR4 crop & adjustments ... Will shoot at infinity and great close focus capabilities, but a super thin DOF ... more images to come later ! Salut, J

Cool! Are you aiming to follow in the footsteps of the great RioRico? Ok, I know this is a different path, but the spirit is still the same.

Interesting work. And nice results

Thanks savoche ... I'm just an "Igor", a disciple/minion of the good Doctor "Rio" ... I miss him.

I have more projects coming, so stay tuned. J

Sweet! Thanks for starting this thread! I had been curious how projection lenses might work in a shooting situation. It's nice to see some examples.

Here's another one just finished recently, but not really tested. Switched the "dead" front element of a Vivitar 100-300mm f/5.6-6.7 Marco (PKA) zoom with a Will-Wetzlar Maginon 85mm f/2.8 ...

This one has an aperture and will shoot like an "A" lens ... only for close focus work at the moment. Photos below shot with the K110D in high noon sun ... and some "fill-in" on-board flash, if I remember correctly.

Will post an image of the lens creation later, J

Edit: Here's what this combo lens looks like ...

Another one: a Leitz Colorplan CF 90/2.5 stuffed in the Russian bellows and with the K-5 ... Super thin DOF and all backyard flowers taken as a first test series, near the end of the day ... Pretty much SOOC with minor crops and adjustments in LR4 ... More later, J

Another new "Franken-projector-lens" ... S.F.O.M. 100/3.2 projector lens* stuffed in an emptied, dead T-4 lens body (M42) on bellows. First test shot with K-5 (x-post) ...

* Edit: I believe that this lens is for a larger 6x6 format slide projector machine ... I have the same S.F.O.M 100/3.2, but in a smaller size which I think is just for a 24x36 slide projector machine. I will rig this smaller one up later and submit some images ... J

Jean, you're well on your way to earning that "mad professor" position you're striving for, especially with that Vivitar Maginon thingy...

Still cool - keep it up!

The Raynox that just arrived in the mail just won't be the same

Another projector lens test shot series ... just rigged it up.

An "Anastigmat Malik Triolam 1:2.9 F/100 Paris" ... lots of fun with it on my Russian bellows and K-5. Only minor LR4 adjustments ...

New "Franken-lens" creation ... a "Docter-Wetzlar Agomar 90mm f/2.8" projector lens replacing the front elements of a lowly Tamron Adaptall-2 Model 58A ... Can use the zoom body aperture to stop down the projector. Mostly for "close focus" to semi-marco applications ... more maybe later. J

Stopped down to about f/8 ...

Wide open, but windy conditions ...

The rig ...

Ok, sorry...

But I do follow your experiments with great interest.
