last week at last I tried out the m 135, which had somehow managed to sneak into my photo bag some months ago.

One question: can you see her eye? On my screen, I can, but my laptop seems to be quite bright... Makes post-processing abit tricky, if it looks just right on my computer it' usually much to dark elsewhere...

Very nice - I can see the eye just fine on my pc monitor. Laptop screens usually leave a lot to be desired, imo, esp when it comes to PP work.

Nice shot...

A Pentax SMC-M lens, like your m 50/1.7 can ONLY be used in Manual Mode. Pentax SMC-A lenses can be used in both Av mode with the aperture dial locked in the "A" position (you select aperture value via screen display) or Manual mode by selecting aperture value manually... (this applies to off brand lenses as well)

Focusing is the most difficult task with manual lenses. Once you get your focusing technique down, you'll be amazed at how sharp and crisp images are. It looks to me, you may have missed the focus on your photo by just a hair or 2, but it makes a big difference.

Almost true - the M lens can be used in Av mode, but it will always be fully open. The aperture will not stop down. For me that makes your statement true, but not for everyone.

Good Point!

In theory, that should work, but I've found in practice, using a non "A" lens wide open in Av mode will result in under exposures.

Edit: Well, I'm wrong about that when it comes to M lenses. I was referring to Takumars and I just mounted an m 50/1.7 and exposures are exactly the same. (Cheesy Takumars!!! :-)

That's true for fast lenses using the standard screen. I think you are using a K10, and I fixed the exposure problems with mine by using an LL-60 screen. Of course, one can always decide that one needs +1 or whatever, and set that ahead of time.
