Hope you enjoy the lenses Frank. I'm sure I will regret selling someday. Right now I'm hunting for a 35-40mm M lens to use with my ME super as a pocket camera. After 15 years, I can't believe I'm M-less.

Although I haven't really used it yet, I certainly enjoy holding and playing w/ it

Thanks again and good luck finding the M35 or 40mm lens

Thanks everyone for nice comments guys! I really love my M lenses especially the 135/3.5. I'm using my AF lenses only for some kids parties and sports...

SMC M 85mm f/2

.

I think the M 85 f/2 isn't just my favorite M, it might be my all time favorite. There's
just something about it.

All of the below were shot either wide open or stopped down one. Incredibly
sharp for such large apertures. Specular highlights & color are as good as any
lens I've shot.

No eating the dandelions, please.

I took the Sammy out for the first time in yucky weather today. What a difference a few days make. This is what Sydney is looking like at the moment.

All your series of shots are great Jay. As you said, they are sharp as and display wonderful colours.
You have to stop posting pics of all these wonderful M lenses..LOL!! Ok, it looks like i'll be putting the SMC M 85mm f/2
on my want list too! It looks a wonderful lens.

SMC 85mm f2

Will you stop posting all those great 85mm shots Jay - at least until I get one. You are driving it out of my price range!

From Mike Johnston, my favorite photography essayist:

The bottom line is, well, good news and bad news. The good news is that, if you're a good enough photographer to make great pictures with "a nice used M6 and Leica 50 'Cron," you'd also be able to do just fine with, oh, say, a $150 used Pentax K1000 and a plain-Jane 50mm f/1.7 SMCP-M you can pick up for $30. And the bad news, of course, is that if you can't manage to shoot decent pictures with that K1000, a Summicron just plain ain't going to help.

The rest of the visual differences can be accounted for by subtle differences in coating processes over the years, as well as the changing fashions in mechanical lens barrel construction. Early Pentax multicoating was superior to every company's except Zeiss's, which equalled it, and even today Pentax has better lens coatings than, say, Nikon or Olympus. The early Takumar designs were gorgeously built — they're just about the smoothest-focusing lenses ever made, Leica not excepted. This excellent mechanical construction and "feel" lasted through the SMCP-M lens, which handles marvelously (for me, the commonplace SMCP-M lens is just about ideal in terms of size, weight, feel, and handling). The "A" lens with its typical, tacky 1970s design style is pretty cheaply put together by comparison, and of course the autofocus lenses suffer from the same problems as virtually all AF lenses except Pentax's own Limiteds, in that they're mostly plastic and feel relatively cheap.

My Favorite Lens

Pictures are just resized. There was some WB problem at image no. 4. But who cares.
