fearview, lovely shot.

gokenin, very, very, nice. I have never seen a flower with such a deep purple before, it almost looks black.

Thanks for the links Jay, made for a very interesting read.

pentagor, excellent series of shots. The 2nd one and the Hibiscus are my favs. I've got a M 135 f/3.5 in the mail. Can't wait to try it out.

I got a few more shots from the 50/1.7 yesterday.

Can anyone pick what type of birds these are?

and this one was taken this afternoon. It's been pretty cold here and my cat decided to get as snug as a bug in a rug in the blanket on the bed. It's out of focus a touch, but i think it's cute.

Anne, I'll have to be on the lookout for a cheap M 28 2.8 in the stores around here for you. Once I saw one for $35, near mint, but it was gone the next day when I went back.

Pentagor, you are single-handedly making that lens go up in value!

Nice shots, everyone. I may have a M 100 2.8 to add to the flock soon.

Thanks Jay. If you wouldn't mind, could you also keep an eye out for an 85mm please, i'd appreciate that.

Look forward too seeing your M 100 2.8 shots soon.
I've got my fingers crossed that the 135mm will be at the P.O. tomorrow.

Jay

You will love the M 100 2.8. It is the only lens I ever sold that I regretted. Can't wait to see the portraits of your child with this one.

Cheers

M Club - M series zooms

Hi all,

I think we have seen samples now from almost all the M primes in this thread. There have been some wonderful images - a testament to these fine old primes and their owners. The M zooms have been conspicuous by their absence. Does anyone use these old zooms in digital? I confess I've never been a fan of zoom lenses. My experience (limited) in digital has done little to change my mind. I took my M 75~150 f4 out this evening and came back with nothing worth keeping. I chalk this up to my inexperience but found the shoot frustrating. The lighting was bad and I found metering difficult. The green button seemed to over or underexpose everything. I'll try again later this week. Anyone have any samples from the M series zooms they care to show? I'd be curious to see how they perform. Id also be curious to hear your thoughts about these old zooms in the digital arena.

Cheers

Tom G

If you are using the K10D with an M zoom, it will be kind of "iffy" on exposure using the green button. My suggestion would be to try it at F4, and see how it works. My K10 seems to get exposure right at F4 on my M type lenses, under F4 = underexposed..over F4 = over exposed. Look at post # 23 in this thread https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/25931-k10d-my-old-...ew-ones-2.html
I did a lil test with a fully manual lens, you'll see how it works..

M Club - M zooms

Thanks for the advice Stratman. I am using a K10 and to tell the truth I seldom use the green button. I usually depend on trial and error. I this case it was almost all errors. I won't give up onn this though. I'll spend some more time with the old zoom on the weekend. As I recall it did pretty well on film and I see no reason why it won't work as well in digital. I'm still curious to hear about other users experiences with M series zooms.

I don't think the 300mm f4 has been represented yet...

...but I'll admit I didn't quite read all 17 pages!

Here's a photo I took with the M* 300mm f4 I got off a fellow forum member (thanks tranq72). My manual focussing was often a bit off due to needing new glasses and birds being quick, but I'm still getting a fair few shots with this; just takes a bit of practice. I'm used to MF lenses though (if my DS dies I'm going to buy another 2nd hand DS until Pentax produces another small camera with a penta-prism; I laugh at how the DS has now become quite cult after all the initial flaming it got; its handling is a joy).

Only downside is 1/180 flash sync-bit of a bummer for daylight fill.

I used to have an M 28mm f2.8, but found it had really bad CA on digital. Maybe I had a rubbish copy. Mind you, it was lovely on slide film; perhaps I took photos in fewer situations with film though.

Nice shots Jay,

I love that M 100 2.8. I regret I ever sold mine as it was one of the best portrait lenses I ever used. The colours look great.

Cheers
