I like my M28/50f2/135 for travel/backpacking. Light and replaceable (100USD combined) if something happens. And the pictures are still excellent. What I like about the M's is the low cost and small size. However I prefer the usability of the A's and the feel/history of the takumars. But I'll probably take more pictures with the M's than any other set.

Here is a picture of the same bridge from page 179.

M85 f/2

I liked the cream that this lens is making, this was really a harsh condition - too much contrast but luckily got away with this.

Beautiful, what was the shutterspeed on this (and was this handheld? I presume no).

Good luck!

These are actually on of first puctures I have seen taken with M 40. It seems to be quite under rated for what it is capable. Maybe one uses it makes here something

If you will look for them these days, you might find that they are not so cheap anymore.

I find that I can get equivalent M42 lenses for their price or under and I can use those in Av mode. The M lenses that I tried, including the M40, were all suffering from purple fringing/blooming in certain lighting situations. The small size is great but also leads to tradeoffs - the 135 had the longest minimum focusing distance of all 135mm lenses I tried - not very convenient. And of course, once you go for other focal lengths than the classic triplet of 28/50/135, prices climb quickly.

It's a great lens. I think it's underrated because its price climbed faster than other lenses because of the pancake novelty and also because the 40mm FL is not that appealing and f/2.8 is not that fast. So people would rather go for a much less expensive 50/1.7 than for such a choice. But otherwise it is a very nice lens, it is sharp wide open, and I like its rendering wide open too - it almost makes me wonder if I missed something on the other K/M lenses I had (M28, M135, K200).

Here are a couple more samples. The first one is my favorite shot from this lens - it's taken the first day I used it.

Moth - M 100mm f/4 "Dental" macro

This moth appeared on our deck, and stayed all day. It is very lethargic. I checked just before sunset, and it was still there in a slightly different position. If anyone has an idea of what it is, I would appreciate it.

ISO 400, 1/125 @ f/11. I include a shot of Claire, who has basically taken over my sensor scope, but allows me to use it when absolutely necessary, taking a close look. This will give you an idea of the size of it. The wings cover a pinkish background to the eye spot. A bit of the colour shows here, above and to the right of the spot. We were reluctant to poke it too much for fear of damaging the insect.
