In order for the camera to stop down the aperture when you take a picture, you must use it in Manual mode.

There is a sticky thread at the top of the beginners' forum with all the instructions necessary to use a lens without the "A" position on the aperture ring.

Nice ones, Patrick. Here's a couple of the Lantana in our backyard yesterday - K100D + M75-150, both @f/4

Might have overdone it slightly on the sky, but much more faithful to reality than the actual shot:

I'm looking to pick up a few M lenses. I have my dad's old 50 1.7 and I'd like to get a prime thats a little shorter and one a litter farther. I'm thinking something like the 28 or 35 and the 85. About how much should I be looking to spend on them?

An 85 will be quite pricey for the most part as they are hard to find (a number the different 85's of them end up selling for more than an FA77 used would) an M85 2.0 will be the lowest price of the lot but will still cost pretty much the same as a new rokinon 85 1.4 which has the A for full compatibility
If you are looking for value in a little longer you'd be hard pressed to go wrong with the m100 2.8. Tiny and should be easy to find cheap (as in less than $100 Mine was about $25 or 30)
Wide I like 28 myself and my favourite at the moment is the M28 3.5 not quite as fast as the 2.8 but sharp as a tack. 28 3.5 should be $50 or less if you look around (mine was $14)
I'm on the lookout for a fast 35 cheap but no luck yet (35 f2.0 preferably but i'd settle for the 2.8. but i want to spend under $40 (under $25 on a 2.8)so i need to find someone who doesn't know what they have)

If you're patient you should be able to get an M28/2.8 for <$40 shipped. The M28/3.5 or M35/2.8 will be a little more and they're not as common. I think the only way that you'll find an M35/2 for <100 is if the seller doesn't know the value and incorrectly lists it in his sale. Better off going for the DA35/2.4

As far as the 85's go, eddie is pretty much right. The M85 is the cheapest out of the pentax lineup and it still sells for as much as the new rokinon 85. $250 is probably a reasonable expectation for this lens. One big reason for me to buy this lens instead of the rokinon is that it's a lot smaller/lighter. But the rokinon is f1.4 and it's an A lens.

the M100 (normal and macro) typically get close to or go over $100. but the M135 is common, cheap and just as good. Easily found for $40 on ebay. Less if you're patient. But I'm probably going to get the 100/4 macro to replace my M135 because I always take my M135 just in case but I rarely use it. Imo the 100mm length would be a little more usable and it adds macro to my lightweight 3 lens travel kit.
