Ummm you guys just made me revise my asked price

Seriously, I agree those could easily worth $300 but at that price I would rather get a Nikkor 85/f1.8 AI or even 85/f1.4 and modify the mount to fit on the Pentax bodies, MF of course.

300-400 for an M85/2 is way too high. At $200 you should be able to get one in very good - excellent condition. You don't see many of those for sure so be patient.

I have two copies of it and paid in average $150 2 years ago. Yes, prices have gone up since but still not at 300-400 range.
$150 was an unusually good deal even two years ago, but still, the one on KEH right now as I write this is in the $200's. $350 is about right for one in EX condition on KEH, maybe, but even the BGN's from KEH are usually as good as what the typical Ebay sellers calls "near mint A++++++ condition!!!!!"

I've never seen a direct comparison, but the M35/2 was never particularly well regarded optically in comparisons against other M series lenses. Still, until the DA35/2.4 came out, I always thought the M35/2 looked interesting anyhow, as it was the cheapest fast normal one could get for APS-C. But given that these go for basically the same price, I can't imagine there being much advantage to the M unless you just want the all metal build and smooth focus ring and are willing to give up all automation for it, or need FF coverage.
Thanks so much Mark for your opinion. I've spotted one locally with a 50/2 and a K2. I've had my mind set on the 35/2.4 but this deal may be too sweet to pass up depending on the condition of the items.

I've never owned a 35/f2, but I have owned the a 35/2.4 and an M35/2.8. The 2.8 crushed the 2.4 so thoroughly (in terms of sharpness) that I couldn't bring myself to keep the 2.4. I sold it.

SMC Pentax K 150/3.5

Thanks Tom, it's a nice lens!

Truth be told, I gave up on Pentax M lenses simply because my K10 and K20 did such a terrible job metering using the Green button, I would end up taking at least 4-6 shots just to get the exposure right or even close, extremely frustrating as well as irritating. However, I recently picked up a K-x and found this little camera does an absolutely super job metering manual lenses using the Green button, spot on almost everytime! Not only with M's but Takumars as well. Now, after a few shots with M's, I can see what I've been missing, great lenses with color, contrast and sharpness... I hope the K-x lasts for awhile

e.g. from a single shot, almost perfect exposure, I might have been able to do a little more PP... (x-posted)

I was so impressed with Rick's efforts with this lens I gave mine a try today.

Our cat allowed me a few shots. She was a little annoyed but cooperative.

Not the most inspired subject but close to hand.

The M 150/3.5 is a nice light fit on the K5. I think you are correct Rick. The M series do seem to work a little better on the K 5.

Could you post the controlled test shots demonstrating this? The DA35/2.4 does so well in MTF tests I find this kind of hard to believe.

I was shocked, too. I had really been looking forward to getting the 2.4.

I'll check my backup disks for the shots, but I know I have deleted some of them from my hard drive. Here are a couple shots from the 35 2.4, though:

and here is a crop from that image:

Notice the CA. This shot was taken at f4, so I found the lack of sharpness and the CA to be unacceptable. When I reproduced this with my M35, it looked much better. I also did some other comparisons, which I will look for. Granted, the images were not taken on the same day, but the results were conclusive enough to me.

I have been told I received a bad copy of the lens, and that is entirely possible. I just thought I would share my experience with it for anyone who is interested.

Well 35 2.4 is from the latest plastic lenses... I don't like them

Here are some M85 shots.

Those a pretty sharp whiskers, don't get stuck! I think the colors and that little bit of extra magnification makes the 150 a pleasure to use. I thought it would be difficult to find something to shoot with this focal lenght, but it makes a decent walk around lens and came in handy for me!
