I'v got M 75-150/4 today...seems to be better than M 40-80/2.8~4. Hope to post something cool today from that, if not then something not so cool.

It's the opposite of the 40-80, superb handling, easy to focus and sharp wide open throughout the zoom range...

Kx + Pentax M 40-80/2.8-4.0

In Macro Mode, one stop down, tight crop. I want to love this lens, colors and sharpness is there, it just takes so much effort to coax it out of the 40-80

Yeah, I know what you talk about. But I have to say, that focal length has a lot to do with lot of things. Some times at 75-80 these lenses are neck to neck. but M 40-80 takes more effort. Here is some shots with M 75-150/4.

(superb shot your last one!)

Rick - looks like you're able to squeeze every drop of performance from that 40-80! Nice job.
repaap: Nice ones, the M75-150 is an incredible lens. Sorry to say I don't give mine anywhere near the use it deserves I should get it out right now while I'm thinking about it!

Paul, Thanks!

Yup, M 75-150 seems to be quite nice. I haven't really have time for it, but what I have seen is good so far. I'm waiting for weekend to do some serious stuff(not too serious with these M zooms.

When using an M zoom, what do you set the focal length to? Do you guess where you'll be doing most of your shooting and plop it in the middle?

That's pretty much what I do & it seems to work ok so far. Mine spends a lot of time on my *istD, so setting FL isn't a problem (no SR)

Thanks Paul and I even have to admit that last shot with the 40-80 looks good But I have to give repaap credit, who also uses the 40-80, for giving me advice and motivation on this quirky lens!!!

If there is a setting right in the middle of zoom I go with that, otherwise I will pick the next higher FL available. I will also, for instance on the 75-150 set it at 120mm for both SR and my way of remembering which lens I used (since I do not have a prime 120). The only time I've noticed any problems with SR and FL input, I was using a 35mm prime but forgot and left my SR at 120m it seemed most of my images were a little blurry...
