SMC Pentax M 400/5.6

Had a few moments today and managed a couple of shots of a Song Sparrow down by the pond.

Looks like he just had a bath.

Very nice photo. That's the lens that I need. There's a similar Sigma on ebay. Would you know if it is as good? Thanks.

Thanks el baroda,

I like the M 400 but as you can see there are CA issues in images such as these. That said it is plenty sharp and I have a lot of fun with it.

I have no experience with the Sigma but I'm sure others on the board will have an opinion for you.

Cheers

Thanks, Tom. I really didn't know about CA until now. Still, the photos look so good I really want to get a similar lens. My longest is a Tamron 70-300mm but I find it still not long enough for bird photos. Best regards.

Nice shots!

Seems to be a really nice lens, and great shots too. Did you use flas for these. seems to rock.

Thanks Repaap,

No flash, With the K5 I'm able to use a higher ISO. This is a great advantage.

M150/3.5 in action. I brought the DA55-300 and M150 to a MLS soccer match but ended up using the M150 most of the time as I can't seem to get sharp images with the DA55-300, especially at the long end.

I assume that you're saying that you can't get sharp images at the long end with the 55-300. I'm kind of of buyer paralysis with regards to long lens so I use my M135 in the meantime. It will be getting used less when I receive a DFA 100WR out of the marketplace though.

Here is one from yesterday where I just missed the focus. This is a Chinese Peacock Swallowtail (if my web research is correct) that wouldn't sit still. I ended up shooting at iso3200, 1/500th and f5.6. It's close to the min focus distance (way too long) and cropped also.
