Eddie, why do you prefer Takumars over Ms?
And in the meantime, another snap taken with my GFs M50. Although it may look like a crop, actually it was a tight fit in the frame.

I like the rendering (particularly on my 50's) there is a Tak look so to speak that applies to a lot of them. I can also shoot in Av mode and up to f8 the metering is pretty accurate (though the focus screen gets dark)
It's also about rationalizing to the one mount. I wanted to keep a couple of the taks over K mount , and there was nothing in my K kit that would move the decision the other way (I still have an AF kit). first step was to get this balanced, the I also have a bunch of other stuff up to fund (or at least fund most of) a DA21, DA50, Fa77

Haven't used it Myself it's pretty rare (assuming you mean the M*300 f4 (there isn't another AFAIK)
It was i beleive the first of the * lenses and all the shots i've seen from it make it look pretty amazing

Only 4 reviews on the forum but universally good reviews - biggest issue is PF and that is not unusual on lenses of this vintage

SMC Pentax-M* 300mm F4 Reviews - M Prime Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

the A*300 is pretty much the same lens but with the A position, there is 13 reviews on it and rating drops a little to a 9.

For the prices they seem to go for they look like a good value. the F* is slightly slower and goes for more than twice the price

The only negative that I found during my research was the 4m min focus. I was looking for a really good 200 or 300mm prime (less than $1000) but that didn't work for me. Right now all purchases are on hold though after getting the DFA 100.

That's really about the going price based on the reviews, a little on the low side $4-500 would be the range. The A* goes for 2-3 times that though is pretty much the same lens aside from the A functionality (which has a lot of value thanks to the crippled k mount)

For anyone interested, I've posted a comparison of some lenses here: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/193250-manual-...ml#post2032956. The list is below.

Here are a couple from the M135/3.5. It's been ages since I used this lens.

SMC Pentax M 400/5.6

Haven't posted here for some time. Made some time and took advantage of the fine weather today and went for a walk with the K5, monopod and my old M 400/5.6.

It's sort of my walk around lens.

Bine ati venit.

I especially like the first one, the third one and the seventh one. Nice varied set.

Best wishes, Kris.
