Thanks Paul, that M zoom of yours has a lot of similarity with my M50/1.4, earthy tones with a very mellow out of focus area.

I think it's the light more than anything.

Light could be a factor, we both are in the winter season which affects color pallet, but I see a family resemblance also.

I think you guys are both correct - certainly the late winter/early spring light comes into play. But I also notice the M-lenses seem to impart a warm cast to the photos that I really enjoy. It's maybe something to do with the SMC coatings of the era, I'm not sure - but I like it.

Picked up an M50/1.7 today plus a set of Asahi Pentax Auto Extension Tube K.

Wow - very impressive. Will post a sample soon (preaching to the converted).

Be sure to get a reversing ring -- the M50/1.7 is an impressive performer reversed on tubes.

I've never tried that before. (Extension tubes yes, reversing no.) Compared to tubes and not reversed, what does it gain you? Just potentially better IQ or does it affect focussing distance, magnification etc?

P.S. Quick question, what's the f-stop one click down from 1.7 on the 50/1.7? f/2? Just curious.

I find one that one click makes a huge difference to sharpness and contrast. I wonder if this was also the case on full frame bodies.

One click down is f/2, after that a whole stop to f/2.8.

IQ can be quite different reversed, depending on the lens. But the M50/1.7 is a good lens either way. You get more slightly more magnification for a given amount of extension with the lens reversed. In general you can expect lenses to perform best in the normal configuration for 1:1 and less, reversed for greater magnifications. But it's worth experimenting.
