Bonjour "M" fans ... gotta question for y'all ... Bought a M 28/2.8 off the the French site "Le bon coin" and I am quite disappointed in the very used cosmetic state and even worse, WITH a nice scratch on the rear element ... this was not how the lens was described, which used terms of "optically perfect", etc. ...
Hello again,

Just FYI update ... I got a full refund (except for postage costs) for my scratched M 28, plus I got to keep the lens, too ... so that was good news, I guess.

More good news in that I found a really nice M 28 in Germany with case and caps at a great price in my books ... only have one problem: cannot read the instruction manual since it's in German !

Before getting rid of the scratched M 28, I think that I will have a shoot-off between my two copies to see if there is any real IQ difference due to the scratched rear element ... Allez et salut, J

That is a good deal for you. Between the lenses I bet you won't see a difference in the pictures unless the scratch was big, Of course the rear lens is more critical, but it will be interesting to see if we sometimes worry more than we need to.. Please let us see the results

Very good, a white reflecting surface on her left/front side would have made it perfect.

Thanks, Albert. I've been leaving it on my *istD these days, trying to get better acquainted with it. It really is a nice lens, sharp with unusual color rendering of the skies. My shots from Main Street the other day would look a bit better if I hadn't had the iso set to 800! Here's one more - a shot of a funeral home lawn:
