Taken just before the sun set while walking the dogs in the woods. I did some exposure corrections in post, but did not boost saturation or vibrance.

Thanks, CR - I think that is one of the 28/3.5's best qualities.

While we're discussing the M100 Macro...

I've wanted to use the M 100 Macro for portraits for sometime. I finally got the chance yesterday at a model workshop.

I really like the results, but being a manual focus lens, it does have the drawback of not being able to focus very accurately very quickly.

Most models will hold a particular pose for only a few seconds.

The first shot is ever-so-slightly out of focus in the eyes, the second is closer to being spot on. Both shots @ f6.3.

Perhaps it's the fact that it's a macro lens, and has a long focus throw, perhaps it's the hectic atmosphere of an open model workshop, but perhaps it's just me getting older.

Enjoy.

Mike

P. S. I know the composition is off on these shots, especially the chopped off elbow in the second one, but at an open model shoot with a prime lens, you can't zoom in or out to compensate.

I say practice manual focusing on cats! They don't give a damn about modeling at all, and it stimulates.

I think your speed it too low for manual focusing, unless you are very, very fast. I usually try not to set any slower than 1/125, preferably higher. That lens is also great with sufficient light. Perhaps, it was lack of good light in the studio, but I'm far from expert. But I'm jealous that you have such a beautiful models in real studio

Here is my model , I don't remember the aperture, but not wide open for sure. I don't like this particular lens wide open. It was either f/5.6 or more. Direct bright morning light. Hand held. Cropped. It was not macro, my cat was on the top of under ceiling shelf.

Gave it to my daughter in law with our old ME and a reverse adapter. She was wanting to get into macro, and I had, by then, gone beyond 28/55/135. It was (and obviously, is) a great little lens. f/8, set to the diamond, and no worries!
