I used to have one of the f:1.7 lenses, but gave it to a friend of mine's grandson, who was getting into photography. I do have a f:1.4, though.... but seldom use it, so I really don't pine over the fact that I gave the other 50mm away. It seems as if I ever leave the house, I grab a zoom of some flavor or other... usually my Tamron 28-200mm. I shouldn't limit myself to the same old focal length lens continually. Maybe I need to set aside one day a week as a "Different Focal Length Day."

The 28's are very nice lenses. Sturdy, good sharpness. I wish there was an f/1.x range available in that focal length for the m's but sadly there's not, especially as I'm sure that an M would be a lot cheaper than a Rokinon 24mm 1/4 or a comparable sigma.

there was less demand for an ultra fast 28 because it was properly a wide lens in film days. now it's a near perfect normal (43 being pretty much the perfect on 35). a fast normal is a much higher demand item. Back in the day I would say 90% + 28mm shots were between 5.6-11 either as a landscape thing or for journo stylezone shooting (f8 and be there)

My current Fuji 18 is f2.0 and it's handy for low light but i'm not often shootin this FOV for Bokeh or narrow DOF. Even my 23 1.4 is more likely to be used in the 4-5.6 range as wide shots rarely take advantage of speed unless you are lucky enough to get very close in to the subject. My 35 1.4 OTOH and My 2.4 plastic fantastic are frequently shot wide open or damn close to it

Made use of the M50/1.7 today so I can justify buying an AF lens similar to this focal length (DA*55) on Black Friday.

SMC-M 200 f/4

I have all the above, save for the 100mm. I especially like the 200mm, f:4. It's somewhat specialized, but razor-sharp with great contrast. The 50mm, f:1.7 is also a superb lens, on par with the 50mm, f:1.4.... almost. I dream of someday once again owning a SMC-K 105mm, f:2.8.

I'm very keen on a 100mm myself. ANd, I'll have to get a 50mm F1.4 to compare with my F1.7!

The 100mm is a fantastic lens, with a really smooth OOF rendition.
It has saved me in many low-light situations, esp. when shooting concerts or events at night without flash...
The 200mm has some fringing problems at large apertures, but it can resolve all 16MP on a sensor no problem if used correctly...
The 1.7 is my favourite lens period...

"Yorkie-poo"? Then, I suppose I have a Scottish Terrier-poo.
