Very nice. The M 85/2 produces very pleasant blues.

A Can't Resist a Good "M" Lens!

I already had one SMC Pentax-M 75-150mm lens, but when I saw this one on a Craig's List ad in Northern California for a very good price, I couldn't help myself. Once again, my admiration and appreciation for the quality of build and superb IQ of these 30+ year-old lenses was renewed. The copy I received today was excellent. No lens creep, no dings, no high-point wear, virtually NO internal dust.... about as perfect as I could have hoped for. And, the test shots were as expected.... Great! Contrast was very good, despite what a couple of the reviewers had to say. Sharpness at all focal lengths was excellent, with f:8 seeming to be the sweet spot for sharpness. Not bad wide open, but it really came alive at f:8. The herd grows.

Nice shots - yes, it's a fine lens, one of my favorites!

SMC Pentax-M 100mm f:2.8.

This afternoon, I consummated a deal for a SMC Pentax-M 100mm f:2.8 lens! I have been looking for one of these for a long, long time..... and I'm tickled pink that I've finally found one. Years ago, I had a M42 105mm lens for my Spotmatic and it was one of, if not my most favorite lenses. A superb portrait lens. I have no experience with the 100mm bayonet mount lens, but the reviews indicate that it's a good one, to be sure.

I love these older manual lenses and to find a pristine copy of the 100mm is something I've dreamt about for years! I take possession tomorrow afternoon and then, Wednesday will be "Field Test Day" for the Dewmeister!

I've a bag full of old M series glass and I think you will really like the way the M 100/2.8 performs. It was my favourite portrait lens back in the film days. Sadly, I sold it when I got an A series 100/2.8 macro. I couldn't justify having two lenses of the same focal length even to myself. In any case have fun with your new lens.

Yeah Tom, I'm really looking forward to being re-united with a 100mm Pentax lens. My 105mm M42 was one of my most favorite lenses of all time, but sadly, it went away during my conversion to bayonet mount back in the early 80's. I have been on the hunt for some time and this one just sorta' fell into my lap when I answered a Craig's List ad about a yard sale that included "some photographic equipment." One phone call and voila! The guy also had a pristine copy of the SMC Pentax 28mm f:2.8, but I already had one.... and I was never that impressed with it, so I passed on it.... but, absolutely JUMPED on the 100mm!

You just never know what's gonna' pop up with you answer those less-than-informative ads. Kinda' like my SMC Pentax 28mm shift lens! A rare duck, indeed..... and if I hadn't done some close, detailed observation of the very poor photo the guy included in his ad, I would have missed it. But, an email, then a phone call.... and it, a K1000, 7 rolls of film, a nice camera case and several filters were mine for $40.00! I've been lucky like that. I've yet to put the shift lens through it's paces..... architectural images and such.... but all things in time, I suppose. It's a rather complicated lens, so there's gonna' be a steep learning curve, I suspect!

I did some people-watching with the M 75-150mm yesterday. All taken wide open on the K3.

The 75-150mm lens has a lot of 3-D effect, doesn't it? Very sharp, too! A very nice tool, indeed. You have some pretty women in Madrid.

That is one of the best steals I've read this year. When I was working in Chicago I had a shift on my MZ-S and it was as sharp as a macro and sure made building shots a lot easier. Using it is as simple as any other fully manual lens, with the ability to reduce keystoning and in some other shots, help with depth of field by shifting rather than turning the camera. Lovely lens. Don't forget to meter AFTER you shift the lens. It can make a serious difference. I learned this early on.
