I took a bunch of manual lenses for a walk yesterday:

K 35/3.5
K 50/1.4
M 85/2
M 75/150/4

and these are some of the results from the 75-150. I really love this lens.

The last of these looks like it was taken with a heavy ND filter or had a filter added in PP, but in fact the light really was like that. The last of the sunlight was on the fields but due to the clouds the mountains at the back were in shade.

It's a remarkable effect, such a color contrast. The 75-150 is indeed a gem.

I have the SMC Pentax M 28mm f2.8, the M 50mm f2.0 and the M 135mm f3.5. I shoot them, along with a number of other Pentax Series lenses, on my 35mm K1000, 35mm ME Super, Kx DSLR and K3 DSLR.

While I love shooting them on my DSLRs they really have to be shot on the 35mm "M" series cameras to be fully appreciated, as those were the bodies for which these smaller lenses were originally designed.

The smaller bodied "M"series SLRs are beautiful little cameras perfectly suited for street photography.

Oh yeh, the lenses are great, as well!

Another "UGLY" Lens (cross posted "post your photos")

With the success of my last "UGLY" grade lens purchase from KEH last October, decided to try another. Had heard so many good things about the M 75-150, and then noticed one at KEH for only $19. Lens looks great - no scratches, haze or fungus, not too much dust, and body looks almost new to me! Took it out for a brief trial on a recent butterfly stroll, and here are some of the results.

We've seen very few Monarch butterflies this year, but this one was nice enough to pose for several snapshots. First is at minimum focus, perched on a Crownbeard stem.

And here's the same butterfly, in the midst of laying eggs on a Milkweed plant. This one was taken with the aid of an old Pentax brand close-up filter.

This Northern Pearly-Eye was also taken with 75-150 plus close-up filter. Had a fair amount of purple fringing, but easy enough to remove in PP.

Here are several Pearl Crescents working the Crownbeard bloom.

And two views of a Tiger Swallowtail feeding at the Swamp Milkweed.

It seems there's something odd about the bokeh of this particular lens. Do you like it, or is it distracting?

Had heard that this lens is supposed to be especially good for capturing reds. Here are some Spicebush berries getting nice and red.

And finally a nice orangey-red Gulf Fritillary. The 75-150 does seem to be very good at capturing both detail and color.

Will look forward to more time trying out this new old lens. And would really appreciate your input, suggestions, and critique!

(PS this last photo of the Gulf Fritillary was taken with a Tamron Adaptall 90 macro plus 2X TC - colors not quite so vibrant, or is it just my imagination?)

Amazing images with a fine lens - and a super deal from KEH, too

Lovely shots - Goes to show a good photographer and a good (cheap!) lens makes for a great combination!

Very nice photos. The 75-150/4 is indeed a great lens, one of the best old manual lenses that Pentax ever produced. I regret taking so long to get hold of one - it quickly became one of my favourites.

Agreed, very nice images. I have not used my 75-150/4 in a long while which is quite a shame ... thanks for reminding me. "To do" soon !
