With M 80-200 / 4.5:
If you (well, in this case, "I", because yours is apparently fine! ) have a lens with a focus shift, you can't focus wide open and shoot, say, at f/8, otherwise you'll get an OOF picture.
You have to set the aperture you will shoot at, depress the DoF preview button (which stops down the lens), and focus at the aperture you'll be shooting at.
Live view compensates for the loss of light (it just increases the gain), while the glass finder can't (there's simply less light passing).

Just in case it isn't clear, with my sample of that lens I can't shoot a 5m-distant target at various aperture without moving the focus ring. The focus point at f/8 is different than wide open.
Just by a bit, nothing major, but it's enough to make a test target look softer at f/8 than wide open, and that's what startled me when I bought it, before I understood what was going on.

Not so easy to understand for me at the beginning ... but I got your solution now ... not better to go under f8 when you are shooting close objets ...

I had to have fun taking pictures of cars passing at night in front of my house: not good images but funny ones:

And some parakeets flying with side light, also with M 80-200 / 4.5:

Well... I'm afraid that's not a solution... the phenomenon is also present at f/5.6 and f/11, though in a reduced fashion.
And sometimes have to use a given aperture for a plethora of reasons.

Nice to see that you're getting creative with your lens! :-)

Nah not worth it... I paid little for that one and I'm using it as it is (plus I believe we are on opposite sides of the Atlantic...)

Perhaps not the most visually stunning shot, but what this represents for me is what my old collection of primes from the film days brings to my digital kit.

This young hare hiding in the chives would already have been running for an exit if I was any closer.

M200/4 on K100D, no cropping or PP, handheld.

I'm still pretty mad that I didn't buy that lens when I could. 35mm is my favorite FL.

But you're making good use of it

If you consider the price for the three of them and the quality of the M 28 / 3.5, the M 35 / 2 was a gift ... The haze dot on the lens is not impacting the image unless you close it a lot (f=22), I never close that much the lens I have ... So yes, it was a good deal ... and the 35mm focal length is really nice on DSL, but better if you are planning to have the FF forthcoming K-1 !! I am not pretending to buy it at a first time, but who knows lately !!

And thanks for your appreciation.

Great pics to use for an introduction. You obviously know your glass and have an eye for composition. A big welcome sir!
