If you use a focusing rail on top of the tripods ball head it will adjust the centre of gravity and make it less nose heavy, its also very useful for making small distance adjustments, the ones with backwards, forwards and side movements are useful and plentiful on e-bay.
Thanks for the tip. I think I get simple 2 way model from local shop at first.

The shot by pres589 is worth mentioning. Really like the simplicity of the composition. Same goes for the first one by paulh.

I noticed that M*300 focus beyond infinity. Does anybody know how to adjust the focusing ring in this model? Not a big problem, but if it's as easy to adjust as M28, then it might be worth the trouble to set it right.

Don't adjust it. The length of the lens changes with temperature. Most long lenses have a bit of slack to account for this.

Good to know. I won't.

Still trying to figure out what to shoot with the long lens. I went for a long walk today and tried to find suitable compositions, but didn't recognize many for the long lens and too often changed to wider lens to get the shot done. I guess I have to leave other lenses home to really learn this lens.

Flowers from today. M*300/4:

Yep. The way to learn the things a lens likes to do (with your help) is to use it again and again and again and ...

Took some time today to go thru the rest of the yesterdays shots. M*300 is a difficult lens to shoot, but when it gets everything together results are simply stunning. Handheld ISO200 1/1000:

I just love the colors, clarity and the detail in the shot. Even on the pixel level. 100% crop below:

Apparently this lens also works great for panoramas. 12 shot panorama of the Helsinki south harbor. Larger version behind the link:

I don't know what to say about last one, but I like it. You can find it in the picture above. It's the more visible one. Not the one spinning in the background:

Today I tried to shoot macro handheld with M*300/4 and extension tubes. Closest I can get is around 2m. At 1/500 or faster I can get results I'm satisfied with. A lot of shot needed to get focus just in the right spot, but ones again, when you get a good one it's really good. Love the bokeh on this lens.

My FA 50 f1.7 developed fungi (pause for agonizing scream), which lead to me grabbing my dust collecting M 50 f1.7. I had forgotten how lovely the M is, how smooth is its focus.
