Given what a lovely lens the M100/2.8 is, the 120 must be a gem. I'll have to try one, one day...

Just back from a long weekend up in Cantabria where the M 85mm got some use.

The M 50mm f/1.7 has only seem a lot of use on film in the last few years but it got some use on the K3 recently and I have been reminded just how great it is. These were all taken at f/2.8.

The last one is special. Love it.

Some horse portraits with M50/1.4. Last one wide open. Others stopped down, but don't remember exact aperture.

Still trying to grasp the differences between M50/1.4 & 1.7. Current feeling is 1.4 for wide open and portrait work. 1.7 for landscapes. But that's still just initial intuition. Have to shoot a lot more with 1.4 to completely work it out.

Got two more today. I pulled trigger on M40/2.8 as soon as I noticed it on sale and took M50/2 in the same baggage to split posting costs. Put them on my cameras and took them for test drive:

40 is ridiculously small, but it was OK to handle. 0,6m minimum focus is a bit long. Shorter would be more versatile, but the size of the lens limits this. Today it looked sharp enough and I liked the rendering.

50/2... I can't imagine that this would bring anything new to lineup as I already have the other 3 M50's. The first M which focusing didn't feel good. Don't know if it's just my copy. Really cheap and, based on today, takes decent images. But other 50's are also incredibly cheap and provide stunning shot, so can't imagine at this point why you would choose this over them. I bought it simply to shoot in Single In Challenge and for that it will do nicely. After 2 months it has earned all 30 it cost and I can happily set it on shelf or sell it if I don't want to keep my collection intact.

M35/2.8 and M150/3.5 are the last missing. Then I have everything from M28/2.8 to M300/4. I lie to myself that that is all I want. I try to believe me

iheiramo: Thanks for sharing pictures from your latest finds. From what you shared, the M40 seems "sharp enough". If I stick with film I might have to find one of these. Thought about finding an M20?

Inre: trips to .fi, I went twice in the summer, once in the winter. Walked across a lake north of Rovaniemi, very different from what you can do safely here, as ice is almost never thick enough where I'm from. I agree that it's very nice in the summer although easier to sleep & get over jet lag in the winter. No one there believed me when I said I was on vacation, in January, and went to Finland on purpose.

When I bought mine in 1982 it was all I could afford. The price difference was more significant then!

I can imagine. The years of snowboarding taught me that January is a good month to be away of Finland. And December. Also preferably November and February. Rest of the year is OK, but you don't really miss much if you stay out also October, March and September. April in Lapland is really special, but May and June are totally unreliable and you enjoy them more somewhere south. But the rest of the year is amazing, except when it's cold and raining for a wee... a month

Weather really isn't the tourist attraction here, but it's quite exotic and if you are just visiting it's not as bad as it is when go thru the 4 sunless months year after a year. It can even be viewed as refreshingly different. Long dark winter was actually the reason why I moved back to southern Finland after my studies. After the years abroad I just couldn't take it anymore. There is significantly more sunlight during the winter here.

Back on topic. I have understood that M40 is better on film than on digital and I can't find much to blame on today's shots with APSC body. There is certain grace in the rendering.

I pondered my twenty something problems in a separate thread in November, if I remember correctly. Ended up with 21ltd when I decided that I wouldn't want so wide on FF. Of course someone from Sweden on the forum was selling M20 thru the winter with really tempting price. I almost cracked, but just avoided it. I think it's gone now, so I'm safe for the moment. So I think NOT finding it.

Yes, I expected that. Why would have they manufactured it at all, if not for price difference. I was speaking about today's prices. I paid 30 for 1:2, 60 for 1:1.7, 90 for 1:1.4 and 147 for 1:4.

Mine got pretty unusable when it got soaked in beer in about 1984, but I had got a 1.7 by then so didn't bother getting it sorted. I had it cleaned and lubed a year or two back out of pure sentiment.

Given to me by a friend this M 50/f2.0 seems to work just fine on my K30.
