A bit brisk here in Waterloo today but took the 400 and tripod down to the frozen pond to see what we could see. Here's a few from today:

Nice shots, Tom. I see that the bird agrees with you that it is brisk out there - he's all puffed up.

Thanks Albert. If you think he is puffed up you should have seen me.

I know you have a M 400 as well. Between us we must have cornered the Canadian market.

Somehow, Tom, I suspect there are one or two more out there, just not on this list.

Trojan, I just love your streetlanternstarshot! Could you explain a little more about how you made this particular one? Was it totally dark? How long exposure?

Hi R

It was dark (around midnight), following snowfall.

Lens - the M 50mm 1:1.7

ISO - 400

Shutter speed - 30 second exposure on a tripod.

Aperture. I believe that it was closed down to f22. I did that on purpose to get that starry effect from the streetlamps.

Taken in raw, then converted to b/w .jpg with some tinkering in Camera Raw/ Photoshop CS3.

Hello Folks,

This is my first post here at Pentax Forums.
I've just bought a Samsung GX-10 + kit lens.
Going with Pentax/Samsung was a no-brainer decision because my uncle had a Pentax ME Super collecting dust in a shelf with a couple of lenses and filters. Not anymore, they are all with me now

Here a couple shots with Pentax SMC M 50mm F1.7 (be aware that I'm pretty new with this stuff, so take it easy on me )

PS.: All shot in RAW with PP in Lightroom 2.2

fvalduga, nice shots, and welcome to the forum and the M club!

You have a classic performer in that M 50 1.7, look forward to seeing more from it and more of your beautiful country.

Thanks guys!

Sabatella and jshermann999, I've been reading this forum quite a lot in the past few months and you have been of a great help around here. Thank you for the inspiration and knowledge sharing.

Here a couple shots with Pentax SMC M 28mm 2.8:

and a couple more from Pentax SMC M 50mm 1.7:

It's nice to see how well you're putting those wonderful old Pentax lenses to good use, Felipe. Keep up the terrific work!

From the Pentax lenses I have used, the M series is definitely my favourite. So smooth, well built, just an awesome lens.

Currently I have both a 50mm F2, and 40mm F2.8. I hope on getting a 28mm.

Oh, and could someone tell me how the K series mount on to DSLR's? I'm curious.

If you are looking at manual 28s, you can do much worse than the M 28/3.5. I have been very pleased with mine. If you can catch a break either on this forum or on ebay (where I got mine), they can be had for around $50 sometimes. The K 28/3.5 is reportedly even a better lens, but they seem more rare than the M. As to mounting the K series, it mounts just like the M series--no adapter needed.

The K's (which don't actually the letter K in the name - they are marked simply Pentax SMC) are functionally identical to the M's. Only difference is that the "M" series was specifically redesigned to be smaller. In at least some cases, IQ was apparently sacrificed somewhat to make the smaller "M" version, but they're still quite good; I suspect that in some cases, improvements were made, too.

The 40/2.8 was the 3rd or 4th lens I bought back in the '80s and it became my favorite normal lens for many years. Unfortunately the cement failed in one of the element groups; I hope yours lives a longer and happier life.

Back then it was actually a pretty affordable lens, otherwise I never would've bought it.

Hey there, fvalduga.

We have something in common; you have a yawning dog, I have a yawning cat!
