I could scratch out the ".8" on the name ring. Would that work?

Lovely moody picture taken by you.
Thanks! I was walking along the fields as night was falling, getting more worried of losing my way than looking for good shots...

Amazing build quality, great feeling of operation and depending on which one you get the IQ holds up really well today.

The M 50 1.7 is one of my favorite lenses to use period.

M150 came today and it's a beauty

K1ii & M100/4:

My planned collection of 17 M series primes is now ready. I should take a group shot one of these days. Didn't have time to take it today. Weather was bad, but took the 150 outside for a quick shoot out to have some test shots. Looks promising. I think I'm going to like this lens.

K1ii & M150 wide open:

Lens and images look great indeed. Did you apply CA correction during the processing? I can’t see any trace of it, while the M200 has a lot.

I didn't, thought C1 may apply some on default. M200 has heavy CA. I believe it's the worst M in that regard.

Value. Not the sharpest lenses in Pentax catalogue, but the cheapest way to high quality IQ and in small paggage.
Rendering. When I bought my first M, the 50/1.7, I was blown away. Previously I had DA50/1.8 and the M made the world so much more beautiful.
Build quality. 40 years later they are still like new. Solid to handle and real pleasure to focus manually.
The control you have when you shoot manual. I want to make the decicions. I don't trust the camera anymore. Even when I have modern lens on, I keep camera on manual. Very often I also keep AF off. I don't want to pay for auto features that I don't use.

Day at the stable

It's quite dark inside the stable, so a good opportunity to test the high ISO performance. Not flawless, but usable, I'd say.

K1ii & M50/1.7 @ISO3200:

Our horse hasn't been towing a skier or sledge before, so at first we needed to get him comfortable with the feeling and the sounds. He's quite secure horse, so it didn't take too long.

What great shots, the idea of riding a horse in the snow is so weird to me, but then, it is obvious when I think of a sleigh.......
towing a skier, now that is weird

A question about M lenses, I know zooms are not your thing, however do you count the auto focus 28-70 2.8 from the ME-F as an m series lens or is it an orphan ?

Cheers Gary

I think the M200 is a pretty weak lens in general. I've owned two copies and while it can produce some good images it tends to be overly flat and the sharpness isn't too impressive especially given how hard it can be to get accurate focus with it. Doing some tests I've found my Tak 135 bayonet cropped to 200mm gives better results.

I'm gonna horn in with my own answer...

I started my journey into manual lens land with a Sony mirrorless and chose Pentax M lenses due to cost, size, and excellent image quality. While I have almost all of them and don't plan a divestiture at this time, if I were starting over with a K-1 (+/- mII), I'd choose either K-series lenses or A-series. Of the As, I'd choose those that are clones of K glass (ie, 15f3.5, 50f1.2, 300f4) and any * lens. This selection is indeed larger and heavier, sometimes by a lot, compared to the Ms, but IQ and balance on the FF DSLR is often better.

The only exception in the M- series I can think of that is truly unique is the M20f4, which is so tiny yet excellent I'll never give it up. (cue Rick Astley)

It's actually a sport, but I have no idea what it's called in English. Nothing major, but there are some competitions. But if you want weird, check out the reindeer racing

I'm too young and new to photography. Still trying to figure out the M series primes. I've read of that lens in PF lens reviews, but that's all I know.
