August 2019 SIC with M135/3.5

August done and what a great month it was. I've been surprised by the performance of M135/3.5. Once again the K1ii delivers where APSC leaves you hoping for a bit more sharpness.

M135 is one of the high value lenses. Easy to find, dirty cheap and yet it provides classic M build quality, handling and good IQ. It's not the sharpest lens in M series, but FF make it easily sharp enought. I had no complains about sharpness during the month. 3D rendering is where this lens really shines. Otherwise quite typical M in colors and rendering. Usable already wide open, but get's sharper stopped down to f5.6.

I expected to sell this lens after the month, but now I'm not sure. I need to shoot M120 and M150 on FF mode before I make final decicion. I don't know if I have use for so many lenses in 100+ mm focal length. Money has zero effect on decicion as I paid 35 for this lens, so if I find some use case for the lens, I'll keep it

I go to September SIC with M28/3.5.

Some shots from a windsurfing long distance race on sunday that I was organizing. Extremely low winds so we were on the limit to go thru with race, but calm weather provided some special shots you normally can't take.

K30 & M*300:

Upwind part of the race was dominated by approx. 30 old division II board. In these conditions these long gone class really shines, but downwind they are hard to ride and couple of modern boards managed to sneak past despite huge lead at turning point.

K1ii & M150:

She's good. Aleksandra Blinnikka won world raceboard championship 2019 and 2018. It was nice to see her in our small competition after a couple of years brake.

Miss focus of the day. I also had versions with the focus properly on the rider, but liked the feeling this one highlighting the water surface on the foreground.

Properly focused shot in landscape orientation.

Pose of the day B&W felt the right choise for this one.

And my favorite as last.

My entire kit in the late 1970's and early 1980's was a KX, M28/3.5, K50/1.8, M 135/3.5. I often wonder if I really need all that I have now ...

I know most folks in the club shoot with prime lenses. I also do; however, I want to share my love for the M 35-70 f2.8-3.5, it's a gem of a lens. Here's an example, original and crop, shot with a K-5iis. It's from a jpeg with minimum pp.

I have an M150/3.5 that I like a lot, but the built in hood is a bit loose. I've googled and searched this forum, but I can't find whether this can be fixed. Does anyone know whether and hwo I could do this myself?

It's loose on all my lenses that has a build in hood. On some looser than on others, but not really stiff on any. I haven't found it as a problem, so can't really answer your question. On the other hand, I often use longer rubber hood instead.

The hood on my (new to me) 75-150 is actually stiff and snappy. First time I've seen an M lens like this.

This week's challenge was "distortion," so I put a plastic bag with a hole in it over my lens.
