November Single In Challenge 2019 with K1ii & M50/2

29th

Big weekend for the resort as the nordic world cups start the season here. Cross country skiing, Ski jumping and Combined in the schedule. Not really post card weather to show the world, but atleast there is plenty of snow

November Single In Challenge 2019 with K1ii & M50/2

A day short, but I put my wrap up together, as I probably won't have time tomorrow. Weather has been very November as expected. Originally thought about skipping this month, but October was so much fun, that I couldn't resist temptation. About mid month weather related frustation and therefore motivation for shooting was bit low, but the end of the month in the north has brought some of the joy back. Those few good days has been such joy. I managed to keep up with daily rythm with shooting and posting.

M50/2 was what I expected. During my month with it on APSC body, I noticed that the best results came when I underexposed a little to leave the top quarter of histogram unused, as lens tends to blow highlights and easily wash out bright colours. I kept that in mind and got perfectly good results thru the month.

The basic problem with this lens is that M50/1.7 is better. It's like f2 is a cheaper version of f1.7. The other M50's have different rendering or macro feature that justify using them at times, but f2 doesn't shine over f1.7 in any aspect. With the prices these go nowadays I see no reason for anyone to purchase f2 over f1.7.

I don't believe I will ever use this lens once the month is thru, so I might sell it or gift it to someone who wants to see what the old primes are like.

I had to click on the ipernity link to see the picture. The cat looks contented.

2nd

December. Golden hour thru the day. This was taken at lunch time. Water is starting to freeze also here on the seaside.

K1ii M85/2 ISO100 f5.6 1/250:

Nice sunny weather today. As there's also a tiny amount of snow I might have gone shooting something else than sea. There's this finnish song that translates roughly; If for moment Helsinki is beautiful with snow on the ground, it will soon rain. I guess it applyes to Espoo also, but I hope it's still beautiful tomorrow

I also shot some ice formations:

I said I could shoot something also something else, but couldn't resist beautiful morning and really don't have time for an second spin today.

K1ii M85/2 ISO100 f16 1/180 on tripod:

An other composition a bit to the left. As a shot I think this is better, but I wanted the sun in the official shot to prove that when stopped down enough there is no PF or flare with this lens. On wider apertures I've had PF problems with this lens.

These are nice; the reflections on the ice look great. So now you have a permanent golden hour for - what's it? - three hours?

Depends on definition. Golden hour calculator give 1,5h in sunrise and -set, so I guess tehcnically sun rises over some limit, but in practise sunlight is yellow and soft even at midday. So I disagreee with calculator and claim 6 hours at the moment. The problem is that this time of the year the cloud cover is most probable, so sun is availabla on rare days only. In November I experienced 3 sunny days and 1 with thin clouds that let sunlight thru, but that is our darkest month statistically, so december should be better. Already 3 sunny days
