M Club - SMC Pentax 35mm f 2

Hi all,

The weather is still brutal here in Waterloo so it was back to the tool shed to experiment with the 35mm. I took a few not very inspired shots but they provide an idea of the M 35 capabilities. I liked the using the M 50mm macro so much earlier today that I took a couple of shots of the 35mm for practice. I think the M series lenses are almost jewel like. The K, A and later sereis don't hold the same appeal to me for some reason. On the bright side the sun showed up later in the day and off to the local pond I went. It is just coming to life and I like to document the seasons there.

Cheers

TG

wavecurrent, very nice collection there. I'm particularly jealous about the 20 f/4.

How would you compare your two 28's - the f/3.5 vs the f/2.8?

.
jsherman999, the 20 F4 is a very nice lens, have had it since it was new( bought it around 79-80). But haven't used it much on the K10D, the reason is has developed a slow aperture Have to fix it. Used it a lot during the film day with my MX and later the LX

The 28's are both good lenses, but if speed isn't an issue I would recommend the F3.5. And the performance wide open of it is very good!

My 50/1.7 arrived today. I've only taken a few shots and i'm already impressed. This is my first time using a manual lens, i still have a lot to learn but it's a fun lens to use.

Thanks jsherman999, appreciate that. I was surprised by build quality of this little lens, it sure is built well. I can't wait to try some outdoor shots later on today.

Very, very nice, nice DOF/bokeh. Did the polarizer de-saturate the green? The effect looks cool.

Glad to see there is finally a thread extolling the virtues of the Pentax-m lenses and providing a venue to post the really great images they are capable of capturing. I own the 50/1.7 and the 200/4. Both lenses hit the sweet spot for compact size, light weight, lens speed, great IQ and solid build.

I would post some recent pictures I took with the 200/4, but I am on the road. My employer has sent me to Austria for two weeks on business. I was hoping to get some good pictures over here, but have been stymied by unseasonably cold rainy weather. Too bad.

M Series musings

Hi all,

Deudeu you got an almost surreal effect with the polarizer - very nice. Ill have to give that a try. Loved your Montreal shots. I have visited many times and have nothing but good memories. Anne the mug makes me thirsty. If you think the M series lenses are well built you should see the K series. The Ms are great in every way but the K series are better in terms of build. They are physically larger, heavier and optically the Ks are thought by many to be better as well. I have both K and M and I suspect it is apples and oranges as both series are very, very good.

Jay, I note you have some Super Takumars in that amazing collection of yours. In terms of build quality the old screw mounts are some of the best lenses ever produced by any maker. They appear to have been machined out of solid blocks of aluminium. The Takumar lenses hail from the days (1960s) when Pentax and Leica were the premier optical houses and there was little to choose between the two in terms of quality. Leica is a cult now and no Leicaphile (is this a word?) would ever admit it but it is true none-the less. Jay, how do you find working with that auto diaphragm on the screw mounts? Is it any more or less difficult than dealing with the aperture ring on the M series? Just curious in case one of those old Takumars finds its way into my bag.

A Question about RAW

Hi all,

A bit off topic but I have been only shooting in JPEG so far. If I shot in RAW will Flicker accept the file and will it display in this forum? I thought I should ask before making a mess.

Thanks in advance

I feel I had better be part of this, being a rather keen user of the M lens. At this time I have only 2

. M 50 2.0
. M135 3.5

I feel I hardly fity at this time, looking at some of the collections other guys have.
However, I really do love using the 135m. This a truly brilliant lens.

Here is a shot I took using that lens. Cropped 21% and slightly sharpened.
I know, it is not a macro lens, but I thought this came fairly close to it, and shows the M135 capability.

Nice, Bruce. I love my M 135 f/3.5. You won't need to use it for macro after 5/23, though, will you?
