Marc, thank you, so much, for taking the time to help me out. The orginal pic shows just how powerful a tool the "advanced lighting" is. Do you notice any distortions with larger sized files?
Not sure what you mean by that. If you apply this tool - which performs a type of local contrast enhancement - too heavy-handedly, you can get haloing artifacts that will be visible at 100% view (or smaller if you're even more heavy-handed). I imagine this is true regardless of the size of the file, but the larger the file, the *less* I'd expect it to be an issue in practice, since an effect that's only visible at or near 100% would not start to show up until you got to larger print sizes as compared to smaller files, where it might show in smaller print sizes.

Anyhow, I have heard more than one ACDSee user comment that this is its single best feature, and one of the main reasons they prefer it to other programs.

And you're welcome :-)

Asking for suggestions picking my next M series lens

Hello Everyone,
I've had my K20D for almost a month. I am really enjoying photography again. So far I have picked up a 50mm f1.7, 135mm f3.5, and the 100mm f4 macro. I must say I love them all. What would you suggest for my prime M next lens?
Something between $50 and $200. Thanks in advance for any and all input.

My favourite wide angle was an M 28/3.5 for many years. It was surprisingly low on distortion, particularly since I only paid $110 for it brand new. This would come out almost a normal lens on your K20D. (28 * 1.5 = 42).

All these nice shots have inspired me to get out my SMC Pentax M 100mm macro lens.

A little froggy climbing up the strings of my fretless bass guitar. (The frog's not real.)

Window light only - no fill flash, coming from the left at about a 45 degree angle.

F11 @ .3 seconds.

I love this lens.

If I am lucky I will be able to buy: 50mm F1.7, 200mm F4 and 300mm F4 this weekend. They're all in very mint condition. I have the 135mm already. Ahhhh....patience, patience.

How much would you pay for a SMC-M 200mm F4 in EX+ condition? (No I am not buying it from keh.com)

Kind regards

There's a Takumar 200mm f4.0 lens at B&H for $79.00 US dollars, but it says that the F-stops stick. It's also a screw mount.
Used Pentax | Telephoto 200mm f/4 Super Takumar Lens M42 | B&H

If you find one in near perfect condition, I'd probably go as high as $150.00

Good to know, thanks. The amount of m-lenses in the 100-200mm range is incredible. 100, 120,135,150,200 ...

Kind regards

I just bought a mint condition, boxed one for US$150 off eBay (plus postage of course). I'm surprised that no one else got it first given it was 'buy it now'.

My Pentax-M 200/4 is merely in EX condition and I paid $65 at Adorama about 18 months ago.

No way would I pay more than $100, since it is a very simple matter to find one in as good a condition as one could possible want for that (eg, at KEH). Really, unless you are just obsessive about cosmetic appearance such that any sign whatsoever that it has ever been outside a box is unacceptable, you can easily find them in perfect working order and still good as good as say, any lens you've owned for more than a month, for about $60-$70.

Hmm... keh.com has one item in Ex condition, $89 USD + shipping to Europe + taxes. That means a total of approx $130-150 USD. It doesn't seem too bad but I think I can get it cheaper in Europe as there's no tax and less shipping costs.

If you're going to sacrifice autofocus and A-contacts then why not allow yourself a little cosmetic luxury...(if you can afford it).
I suspect that many buy old lenses even though they can afford new ones, perhaps because of the old look and feel, the challenge of 100% manual, or because old lenses have a personality/charm that new lenses miss.

Kind regards
.lars
