Not sure if I posted this one elsewhere, a few more neurons must have flaked off ast night, so I'll post it here. Kind of liked the way this Song Sparrow paused for a break after catching some lunch.

Might be a Female Red Winged Black bird but the ornithology guys will correct me if I'm wrong.

Lens M 400/5.6.

Thanks Tom and it's a great bird shot. You must have a decent collection of birds seen and photographed by now?

I admit to being distracted by the large aluminium birds now, which the M400 is a handy lens for also.

Getting there Jason but still a lot to see even in the local area.

At least the aluminium birds sit still when they are on the ground.

There always is mate. There's a really huge amount of birds in the local area too, would take years to find them all!

Yes, strangely my photos are the sharpest when they are on the ground

Always need more practice.

By the way, I am wondering a bit which 135 to buy. I do have a Super-Takumar, but gave it to a good friend who lives in Norway, so that is out of my reach...
Now it's 2,5 vs 3.5 and M vs K. Oh, well, and maybe Takumar. (I'll steer clear of Takumar-Bayonet, though).
At nearly 1.90m I am not so smallish, so extra weight and size of the K would be no issue. I do like fast lenses, but fear DOF might be to shallow at 2.5 given the focal lenght, so the extra stop might not be usable and 3.5 might be fully sufficient.
I have some Takumars and an adapter, so even m42 might be an option, but I must admit I am a little bit lazy and would prefer not to have to break my fingers in beetween shooting session whil echanging lenses, so bayonet is preferred. (and I keep the Takumars for the spotty - or som erare occasions, when I shoot only m42).

So, which 135 to buy? Is there one to be preferred over the other?
And then, I do need a wide-angle solution on th ek200d. Seems not to easy, if it has to be cheap...

Meanwhile, some with the 80-200 M-zoom.

If possible go with the K 135/2.5. It is widely regarded as one of the very best Pentax lenses ever made and gets rave reviews from one and all. I wish I had one. Depth of field at f2.5 is really a non issue and a bonus when you want to isolate a subject. More importantly, the extra brightness f2.5 provides in the viewfinder is always there and makes focusing easier.

screw all of them! Get the F/FA 135mm F/2.8

It actually has a metal body. Don't get fooled by the FA50 construction that uses more plastic. The FA 135 is very sharp and it also focuses much closer than its K/M relatives: 0.7m vs 1.5m. It's a superb lens.

the F/FA 135 aren't plastic. even the F/FA100/2.8 are made of solid metal barrel which are tougher and heavier than their DFA (old DFA and new WR DFA) macro counterparts.

Its a block of metal molded into a fine piece of imaging equipment, not some plastic "maybe fantastic"

I felt bad even trying to compare the M 135mm vs. the F 135mm

(not saying its bad.... its just not up to par with the F/FA)

I love the feel of the old manual glass! I have ordered a Katzeye to make better use of them.

Here's the first part of a series I did on the train between Innsbruck & Vienna last month. Most of them I processed in camera, playing about with colour filters, contrast & saturation to get an old-fashioned film sort of feel to them. Let me know what you think.

All taken with M 50 / 1.7.
