Hi, am a nubie here and in Pentax lenses, currently a proud owner of a SMC-M 135/3.5. Mostly quite satisfied with the lens with only a couple nags.
It came with built-in hood but a bit loose so if the lens pointed down, it extend with a *clink*
Anyone can help with this or provide a useful link? Thx

Hi Reds,

Welcome to the forum.

The loose lens hood is not really a problem at all. This is common with built-in hoods of this type. Over time they get loose. Pointing down it won't be an issue as the hood is fully extended. Pointing up it might it be as you could get a little flare as the hood retracts. If it really bothers you perhaps a very small piece of tape would hold it in place and not leave a lot of residue when you take it off.

For all practical purposes I suspect it is a non issue and I would just ignore it.

The lowly M50/2.0 is quite capable in my opinion.

@Reds - For loose built in hoods I put an elastic band around the lens barrel. Putting the elastic in front of the hood keeps it from extending, and moving the elastic behind the hood when the hood is extended keeps the hood from retracting.

This is a better solution than the tape idea I suggested above. Nothing to gum up the works with this one.

Gee, never think of that..

a simple elastic band...
I used a 49-52 step up ring to hold the hood

Tea Kettle by natestation2

Picked up a M28 f/2.8 to replace a Pentax-A 28 f/28 that had blurry edges. I love the feel of the M series. Light-wieght, well constructed, damped smoothly, and great IQ. I really have a hard time deciding whether to go out and about with a couple M's or a couple Tak's. Usually I only bring two of either series since I hate carrying a bunch of lenses.

Nice photo, I really like the glimmer shown throughout!!!

I've got the m28 2.8, and EVERY non Pentax user that sees it on my cam just wants to play around with it. They love not only the IQ, but the close focusing and compactness lens. I've got the 35 and 50 as well but people want to see the 28 for some reason.

I have the 28 2.8 and the 28 3.5, my 3.5 is in better shape (the 2.8 unfortunately has a little haze) I love the 3.5 it's a great lens

It is amazing how little veiling flare there is with these old lenses, despite doing your best to show all its faults! Great shot.

Now that is a fantastic photograph.

Eddie I have the same lens which is, as everyone says, very sharp. Or at least mine is in the centre. Perhaps not so much at the left and right edges. Did you have to stop down a lot to get that ship sharp?

I just received my 28 3.5. The 28 2.8 is in Madrid, so I´ll do some comparisons when I get back. I´m hoping to get out this morning to test drive the 3.5, can´t wait!
