The problem with HDTV and a sharp lens for portraits is that they are too realistic. They capture every single thing, even those that Clearasil could remove. I guess that for advertisement and fashion, Photoshop would take care of those. A lens like SMC Takumar 85/1.8 would offer the perfect softness wide open for those cases. The Tamron SP 90mm f2.8 macro would be a killer, worst than HDTV. I love the natural beauty of the model, it is outstanding. You captured it. Like Carole King would say, she is a "natural woman".

Looks like I should be hanging out here. Having made most of my lens purchases in the 1980's and now using them on a K5. I have an M 28mm 2.8, M 50mm 1.4, M 50mm Macro, M 120mm 2.8, M 80-200mm 4.5 and an M*300mm 4.0. I have other lenses (all manual) also. I really enjoy the manual aspect, don't think the auto everything is for me, and would feel guilty abandoning my precious M lenses

It's going to take some time looking at all these pages of this thread

My girlfriend graciously agreed to let me take pics of her newborn, Alessandra. She is 3 days old here. I've never taken or edited pictures of newborns. Although this could be a better picture with more editing, they seem happy with it and the other pictures, as well. Of course, they aren't paying for them either.

A better lens would be the 85 soft focus Pentax made specifically for this use. The way they create the softness has yet to be done satisfactorily in post processing. I'm not sure if the lens was a K or an M, but, like all Pentax lenses, it was perfect for the purpose for which it was built.

I'm going to look into getting a Black Promist filter, or something similar. I don't have the budget to have something as specialized as a portrait lens. I did think about working in photoshop to some of the sharpness on the actress's skin, and I'll probably do that if I ever print the image.

One I found was a soft filter with a hole about 1.5 cm in the middle with frosted glass around it. It seemed to be not too bad. The design was such that as you stopped down, you got less and less of the glow - much like the 85 soft, but not quite as good. I think it would be a lot easier than trying to do it in photoshop or gimp to do it in camera. The brand I have is a square filter much like Cokin, but long gone, Ambico.

I received from a friend whose nephew had been given a camera for college, now deceased. They think he never used it. I took a look at the never-ready case, and was expecting another trashed camera inside. Check out the second image from the battery compartment. The battery compartment taken with the M 100/4 macro - just to be on topic.

Last year I purchased a spotmatic outfit from a former pro... camera, lenses and lots of filters. One if them called "Softon", just cleaned and tried it out will post images when PP. But it is a solid well built filter and the glass has a little bit of "waviness" look, but almost perfectly clear and exposure seems to be the same with or without filter...

Both using M 28/2.8
