These were taken looking into the window of a now disused prison in Segovia, Spain. All with the M 28mm f/2.8 (version two).

Playing with my trusty 50mm f1.4, I believe this was f4. I was trying out a new home made flash diffuser made out of plastic canvas, I'm pretty happy with the results. I used a dark blue gel to balance the flash with the aquarium lighting.

Great shot Elliott.

Aquarium shots pose a lot of challenges.

Yeah, it took me a while to get the hang of it, it started because my mother has some salt water aquariums and can't take a good picture to save her life, but wanted to show them off. I've grown to enjoy using them as a subject, there are things in there that are just bizarre looking that look like they could come from another world. It is hard to imagine that most of those things are animals, not plants, they aren't all stationary either, some of them will "walk" around if they are unhappy with where they are.

It has become a fun challenge and a good way to learn how to work around difficult situations. The color temperature of the lighting alone can drive a person insane, especially when it is setup on a timer to change temperature to simulate different times of day. So at a different time of day I need to use a different gel to balance the flash.

She does accuse me of somehow making the pictures look better than reality, I guess that is a compliment. Thank you for your compliments too.

I have been revisiting the M50/1.4 on my K5. I had switched to using my A50/1.7 while still using the K200D. This was not an easy shot to catch in focus at 1.4, I shot from a monopod as my wife was eating breakfast and I think it would have been easier to shoot small birds and keep their eyes in focus. Post Processed using Aperture 3 and NIK plugins.

Here's a shot of my niece Hanna (wishing she was somewhere else!). Taken with a K100D & M35-70/2.8-3.5. Moderate crop, iso 800, f/8 I think, and no sharpening:

Continuing getting reacquainted with the M50/1.4 while learning to use some new gear.
