Thanks everyone for your replies. I will have to look at picking up a few of the manual lenses. Thanks dosdan for the tip on the different adapters. KEH seems to have a large selection of the M42 lenses. I am a little too reluctant to use ebay and not lucky enough to stumble across any good deals. Anything else to consider between the M42 mounts vs. the SMC -M lenses other than the actual mounting aspect?

M42 lenses tend to be bigger/heavier and have a nicer/smoother feel to them compared to similar Pentax-M lenses. Inserting and removing flush adapter is a bit finicky if you quickly want to switch between a K-mount and a M42 mount lens. Swiching from one M42 lens to another would be quick though.

Can someone with an M lens let me know if it is possible to auto-bracket with one? Obviously with the shutter speed being different across the bracket.

If it works, how did you set the camera, set it to Av mode (to match the lens) and then shoot, or set set it to M? I am guessing that it may work in Av mode as the camera can only vary the shutter speed then.

Bracketing doesnt change the aperture does it? It just changes the EV compensation I believe? So shouldnt be any problem.

Bracketing changes EV compensation indeed, but changing EV, means changing the one or all of three parameters: aperture, shutter speed, ISO sensitivity.
If the camera is in Av, the bracketing system changes shutter speed value, if the camera is in Tv, the bracketing system changes the aperture value.
If you use M lens, the camera should be in M mode and the bracketing is possible. The system changes the shutter speed.

Schmik, I just confirmed that for you on my K100D. I pressed the exposure lock and the bracketing changes the shutter speed for sure. I was concerned the camera might not retain the exposure values for all three frames, but it does.

I'm just learning too... HDR photography is a very new concept to me.

Just a FYI if anyone is looking for an M 135. Cameta had 2 of them for about $70 each, about 2 months ago, both listed as E++ perfect glass, the prices dropped to $60, then $50 and then $40, so I bought one, now I notice that the one they have left is down to $29....

That's awesome price. I paid about 90$ for mine.... but then again: I'm in Europe...

Hi all,

Finally a nice day here in Waterloo. We have seen some great shots from Slovenia, Finland and Australia. I feel like I've been on vacation. I went to Victoria Park around noon today. Here's how the short Ms saw it.

This is definitely inspiring me to dust off my M42's. I've got my SMC Tak 50/1.4 in the window sill trying to rid it of a 30 year hiatus and some jaundice. Here's my first pano just days after I got my K10D (ed. M42 SMC 135).
